George, to answer your question, I have written some songs that would be classified as Christian...but I never go in trying to.....one is listed at my website....the quality is really poor as it was a quickie demo to give to someone else I was hoping was gonna record it.......btw, what part of Louisiana are you from.....

I've viewed a lot of threads in this forum. If I didn't like or have any positive input for that subject, I simply left it without a post. Basically, I am a christian song writer who wanted to find out if there were any others that wrote songs of the same subject matter. It was never intended to bash anyones beliefs or lack of beliefs. It wasn't to condem, ridicule, belittle anyone. It was just a guestion of one of many perspectives of writing. One that I can relate to.
So If my posting a question offended you, for that I am truley sorry.

Hey Royston; carlm down. Temper, temper. I know nothing about Christian music either and therefore don't play any but leave it alone. Don't be ignorant. I have no intention of getting into Christian music (or any religious music at that) but you can learn about other's viewpoints and opionions on the matter. All your doing is trying to give this thread a sour start therby taking away from it. Yes your entitled to your opinion and I agree to you in the most part but it will deter others from posting replies and scare away a newbie.

All I do is write Christian songs. Christian music today is an up and coming genre.
Check out bands like: Sonic Flood, Gary Moore.
In CCM mag. they list U2 as a Christian band.
Some of the Praise and Worship stuff, especially on the WOW
CD's are awesome.
I'm am somewhat new learning about recording and find much of the Christian music recorded today very well done.
Sort of reminds me like the Trevor Rabin, Yes stuff...

Don't take my rants on religion personally please folks. Nothing against you. I just hate religion more than anything (with the exception of the government). I don't see the need to label a music "Christian" . If you want to sing about god then fine, sing about it, why label it Christian?

I write all Christian songs also. I agree that Christian music has come along way. I remember a few years ago there were only Southern Gospel and what I called Christian elevator music with words. Neither appealed to me. But the stuff coming out now blows me away. Check out a group called "Third Day" and some "Danny Chambers" stuff. I think you'll like it.

As far as why label it "Christian". I really don't want to turn this thread into a religous theology debate. But just on the surface, if you went into lets say Wal Mart or log onto Amazon.com, the music that I listen to and write will be found under the label "Christian". The Radio station I listen to, KSWP, advertise themselves as my 24 hour around the clock Christian music station. Its just the easiest way I know to refer to what I do.

Christian band doing well...
This is the band I'm in ( http://www.teleo-rock.com ). We write most of our own core material. There are some sound bites on the web-site too, but the quality of the recordings are awful. As soon as I get a mixer we will be re-recording. The Christian music scene in Memphis is going great guns. See http://memphischristianmusic.com to see profiles of a handful of local bands that are really putting forth a great effort most writing their own material.

I'm in the middle of a huge writing and recording spurt, and all the material I've been committing todisk lately is quite similar in lyrical content.
I've wrestled with the "why label it Christian" thing as well, and as you can see, I'm not doing so on my Ampcast site. For the time being, I'm taking the Jars of Clay approach and hoping people will be able to enjoy the music enough in its own right while giving something to spiritually "chew on" in the lyrics.

I've done about 20 Christian songs in the past year ...... however, they are all in Chinese
but I guess that is the interesting part that our musics do not only share our belief but also our cultural backgrounds.
What kind of Christian songs are you writing? Rock Pop? Rock n Roll? Rap?

Nothing against you ... but labelling songs about God (or god, in your case) as "Christian" is just for convenience purpose in general. Just like we label songs about love as "love songs" ... not a necessary act, but it is more convenient as we refer to them. We don't define a song by giving it a "category" ... it defines itself.

First, I would like to encourage all you Christian writers to pray for Royston. Ive never seen a more striking example of a person who needed Jesus in his life.
Second,and probably should have been first, I am a Christian and a songwriter so I guess that makes me a Christian Songwriter. Also an ordained Minister of Music.Wanna hear about my ministry,Royston???

Answered Prayer Band is the group I'm with. We are presently into our third CD project. All the songs are originals except for ine on the first CD and one on the second CD, but both have original arrangements. There are three of us are songwriters. We have a six member group.

To be or not to be, labeled a Christian
OK guys, I think its time to get beyond the Christian label thing.
It was never my intention to start this thread to shove my being a Christian into everybody face.
Royston posted his beliefs concerning labels of Christianity on songwriting. Myself and others addressed the issue. As far as I'm concerned the issue is over. I wanted to know if there were any others that wrote songs from a Christian perspective. Because there are suttle differences in writing Christian songs as opposed to other writing. Having done both I can tell you the differences.
Of course this is according to George 1:1.
1) When I wrote secular songs, I wrote about issues from my own perspective. Or the truth as I saw it.
2) Now the Christian songs that I write are derived from a different source. Because I'm a Christian, which by the way means Christ-like, I now choose to use the bible as my source of truth. So the songs that I right have to line up with what I believe to be true.
3) Some of the songs that I write are directly from stories of the bible. The subject and the truth of it are there. My job is to put it in the form of a song with music.
4) To write Praise & Worship songs, again must line up to what I believe to be my source. These songs are not designed to entertain. They are meant to be used in a religous church service to lead the congragation to a place where they forget about the cares of life and worship the God they serve.
These are but some of the suttle differences. But as you can see
Christian songwriters should have something in common. The reason their songs are labeled Christian. A Christ-like truth. Hence the label Christian song.
As for me personally, I hope the way that I conduct myself and the attitude that I present my thoughts in this thread, speak louder than any label I could be tagged with.
