if you're looking at parting with that vibrochamp, let me know. ;)

Yeah, I'll add you to the list.

The list of people who will never get it because I'm taking it to my grave with me. :D

I'll check out your stuff. Thanks.

:D LOL is it a blackface or a silverface? the local axeshop here has had a silverface vibrochamp on consignment for several months. it's got a new set of groove tubes (blech) and one of those Weber 8A125's in it. they want $399 for it, which is pretty tempting, especially considering that the weber is about a $100 upgrade.....but i do think it's about $60 overpriced.

i haven't played it b/c i know if i do, i'll buy it. but i think it would be a nice complement to my plain champ.

the problem is i want a old Deluxe Reverb as well, and those aren't cheap.

cheers,
wade

'65 blackface.

All original AFAIK. Bought it in about '71 or so.

I'm thinking I'd also like to have a Twin now, even though I have no real need for one.

man those things are LOUD. a buddy of mine's got a silverface. it's been "marshalled out" in that all tubes are firing at all times. i can't turn it past 3 and be in the same room with it. i'm sure it sounds great on 7 or 8......but i don't want to be in the same timezone with it in order to find out.

and i live out in the country. we put it out on the back porch and cranked it up once. it got the dogs a mile away all riled up. :D

I have a question about impedance and power.

Ok, I'm under the impression that if you have an amp that has a, let's say for argument's sake, a 4 ohm output, and you put an 8 ohm cab on it, you will get roughly half the power out that you would have with a 4 ohm cab. So would get roughly 1/4 of the power out with a 16 ohm cab.

Is this correct, or am I off base?

It depends on the amp's output impedance.

If this is correct, then wouldn't I be able to take the new Epi cab, rated at 16 ohms, and plug it into the 4 ohm jack on the Epi head, and get roughly 1/4 of the power (with the associated reducion in volume) than if I plugged it into the 16 ohm jack?
Or would I just cook something?

It depends. :D

Does it have other outputs besides the 4ohm one?

yeah. the epi VJ head has 4, 8 and 16 ohm outputs.

Thanks- separate taps like that usually means don't hook any other but the rated impedance to the tap.

I've got a '64 BFDR, and no, it's not for sale. ;^)

I bought one of these http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-65-Gibs...ryZ10171QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
for $10.00 fixed it with a fuse and an electrolytic capacitor.
I let a Fender Snob play it, and I mean snob in a rich way. (He has about $100,000 worth of old vintage fender amps and guitars) and he was awestruck. He couldn't believe how good it sounded, he said it was equal if not better sounding than his 65' reverb deluxe.
He was pissed that I sold it on Ebay. Well worth the $350 or so you'll spend on one.

Good find. Why didn't you keep it?

I have 2 epi mini's the VJ and a Special. I just put the Eurotubes in them last week. I notices improvemnets in tone on both. The EJ sounds like the volume has doubled since the upgrade. The Special sounds like it has lost some harsh
treble and gained some buttery midrange.

I hooked up a 12" Vintage 30 speaker to them and they sound really good.

The stock 10" in the Special is pretty good by itself if you don't try to go to crazy with it.
