PC load letter?
Does anyone else just like to sit with a good cd at max volume on your monitors until you realize that your ears have to last another 60 years (for me at least :D )?

That was really just a preface to my actual question...

I have mackie Hr824s, so for ~$1300 I got great speakers and 500 watts of amplification. Now it doesnt seem to me that you could get a 250 watts a side amp and ANY speakers for that price in Home Theater type gear. So finally, am I right in saying that my speakers are better than anyone else in my high schools? :D

P.S. I got some rich kids in my neighborhood, they all have bose systems.

Someday I will assemble a hometheater system with Hr824s for the main stereo pair 624s for the rear, that new hr626 for the center channel and the new bigger subwoofer hrs150 for the LFE channel. That'll show all those kids with there cracked out palm sized bose system!

i'll tell you one thing: you probably have the most ACCURATE speakers in your school :)

It is funny how decent pro gear is usually the same price or less then mediocre home gear. My dad wanted music for parties outside at his house so I talked him into picking up a pair JBL Eons. Of course they live with me now but I'll let him use him occasionally ;)

PS. Most Bose systems are overpriced crap. Some of their pro gear isnt too bad but still overpriced.

Its funny some of the gimmicks that home gear try to get you to buy with, I just saw this JVC stereo with ~4" tubes coming out of the tops, they kind of look like rocket launchers, they have some name but i suppose all they really are are ports for the lowend

yeah i love how people fall for that stuff. "nah man, you need a sub. look at those stupid little 8" woofers on your HR824s. Probably can't do shit." so, i pop in a little asian dub foundation, track 5 on rafi's revenge, and watch the fools get thrown back across the room :)

I'll put my home theatre up against a set of the Mackies and I'll win. Trust me.

One thing you have to think about... accurate is for mixing, not listening...

I do agree that Bose suck, but what do you expect from a company that sells there stuff at Circuit City and Best Buy. Come on, you don't really think this is the best the home world has to offer. I have a B&W setup, and it will kill the Mackies. KILL them... DEAD, NO MORE... trust me.

yeah but we're talking about the guys with the cheap sony all-in-one packages :)

I SUBMIT, haha musikman, it seems you happen to be quite an audiophile, a well funded one at that!

I just added it up... Thats a $40,000 Stereo System....OUCH!

It could be a lot worse...

Total: $88,100 (I rounded)

Add in cables (that do it all justice), monoblock stands, equipment racks and tax, and you have spent about $100,000 on the nose.

I didn't really search too hard, and I know people who have spent $500,000 on stereos, but this is just from one site. Kind of puts a $1000 home stereo from Jim-Bobs Electronics Super Store into a new perspective. Although with the right luck, and patience you can put together a system that will rival anything for $3,000. You just have to know when and where to shop...

Later,
Musik

How many cups of coffee at a time does the AAS Gabriel make?

Bah, that's some cheap stuff you guys are posting. :)

Try some real equipment:

Speakers - $135,000 http://www.sonic.net/soundscape/gen11.html
Preamplifier, Amplifiers - a lot :) http://www.audioresearch.com/
I've seen mono AR amps go for $20,000 or so each, preamps aren't much better.

On a serious side though, as far as the best sounding speakers I've ever heard (listened extensively to Martin Logan, B&W, KEF, Sonus, Dunlavy, and the lesser stuff like Paradigm, Def-Tech, NHT, etc.): MG 20.1 These have a slightly more natural sounding characteristic than the Martin Logan's do, which are a very close second. All other speakers sound like, well, speakers in a box. Sometimes that's good, but not for my preference. These are the only speakers I've heard that could make it difficult to A/B them vs. a live vocalist, guitarist, pianist, etc.

And, as far as the best on the electrical side of things I've heard (from Krell, Bryston, AR, Adcom, Rotel, Marantz, etc.) is this: http://www.spectralaudio.com/ These electronics are absolutely breathtaking. They don't sound like tubes, and they don't sound like solid state. They don't sound like anything. Well, they do... coupled with the right speakers (above), they sound real.

Who needs all that expensive crap? I built my own speakers using 15" (JBL I think) woofers, and misc mid and tweeters. I've got 150 watts in to each one. It's plenty loud for me. And if I need more I plug my subwoofer out into my Peavey bass amp and let it handle the low end, and I can turn the other speakers up even louder. IT ROCKS!

yeah...and my 20 year old Crown DC300 and URIE time aligns kick booty over anything mentioned so far... especially the Mackie "bookshelf" speakers. even the jbl4311's (even older) will make 'em whimper with my crappy Alesis amp!!
