does anybody here have a studio in a 10x10 space?

My control room is 10' x 12'. The tracking room is 12' x 16'.

I'm about to move into one, as soon as the daughter & granddaughter move into their own place.

Any day now she tells me. Please, dear God, if you grant me just one prayer...

10' X 12' Recording area

Drums are not in there though. They are in an area 14' X 16'

I was in a 10x10 area -for a couple of years however that was when I used a drum machine and only had one guitar amp. It was one one section of the basement which served as the control room/studio. All the tracking, mixing etc. was done in that space.

About 3 years ago I decided to add a TD-10 electronic kit and a small 4x4 "vocal booth" - so now I'm at about 10x20.

My studio is 10x11 feet. What is it you're looking to find out?

It can be done but watch out for...

Early reflections from the close walls, they will alter the sound and cause you to eq incorrectly.

In a small space like that, you would need to treat the walls with soft material to avoid echos. Keep volume down on playback speakers and sit close in the sweet spot between your nearfield monitors.

I used to have a small bedroom studio about that big and I learned to work around the problems. Get some good Headphones and check your mixes frequently at another facility.

Good Luck

Dom:p

Mine is 10 by 10. I just put those foam matress pads up on the walls to dampen echoes. It works pretty well.

Mine is 8' X 12' and it sucks. Weird room size. I moved a few months ago and this is all the wife would let me have. The small shitty room. Ive only done one song here. The last place I had a 14'x 20' and it was great. It was a guest room behind a friends house. I couldnt afford the rent anymore......
Myx

I`m in a 7' x 12' lil office thing off my garage. It aint too bad for what I do. However the wife already knows I plan to conquer and colonize the garage next to it in time.

10x13

I do my recordings in a 10x13 space... it works just fine. I dont have a control room or a live room but i do have a closet acoustically treated for vocals haha not very professional i know but our new house is having ground breaking next week and I'm having a real studio built in the basement... but in the mean time i use the 10x13 space and it's perfect.. but here is my little control station...

When we had a baby on the way, my wife evicted all of my music gear so we could set up a nursery. Then, as a Father's Day gift, she got me one of those 10x12 wooden yard buildings. We insulated and sheetrocked the interior; her father, an electrical contractor, put in all the plugs and light boxes; and I finished it off with carpet, air conditioning, and a ceiling fan. It's a really sweet place to work. There's enough stuff in it to take care of any weird bounces in the vocals, and I record my guitar stuff direct, anyway, so I haven't run into any problems. It's been a real blessing.

Small studio tip -- Get yourself a Mesa/Boogie DC-5 combo amp. It has a direct recording output that sounds exactly like the cabinet, plus there's a switch on the back to turn off the speaker, so you can get as loud as you want, crank the power tubes to the max, and nobody needs to hear you. That, and a digital drum kit and you are really cooking!

Wow! Almost 20 years ago since last post on this thread? :)

The two rooms of that size I have are isolation rooms.

OP, why do you ask? I mix in two different rooms. One is 16 x 22 and the other is 10 x 11.

Drums in a 2m by 2.8m (6'6" by 10') Esmono booth, and everything else including keyboards in a 2m by 2m (6'6" by 6'6") Esmono booth.
Reading the above posts, it seems most pepole have approx 10' by 10' studios.
