I have a Audio technica AT813. This mic can use 1 single AA Battery for power. I always use phantom power with the mic because from what I know the quality is better. My question is, will a weak battery hurt the performance of this mic while using phantom power?

Thanks in advance

I've asked this battery question to different people who are more technically minded. I've been told that a battery should stay good and put out the requisited power up until it goes. If you notice a decline in quality before that time, then you replace it.

The max SPL which the mic can deal with will be higher when using the 48V phantom power, rather than the 1.5V from the AA internal battery. I would only use the AA battery when the 48V is not available (for whatever reason).

Thanks guys

I always use phantom power. Just wondering if while using phantom power the battery can effect performance.

Thanks

Although I'm not 100% certain with the AT mic, I am 99% certain that when Phantom power is applied, an internal circuit cuts off contact with the battery. Therefore you can have no battery and still get fine performace as long as phantom power is applied. At least that's the case with the AKGC1000 that uses a 9v battery.

I will pull the battery and give that a try. For some reason This thing does not seem quite that sophisticated but we will see.

Thanks
