How many of you believe in fx presets (DirectX, Plug ins,etc...) when you mix your work ? What works ? What not ? Why ? Comments...

I never use them... I have Waves Gold, and can just never seem to find one that fits..

I always end up tailoring something to my needs.

I'll usually click on the ones that I think will be closest to what I want....then make adjustments as needed... and sometimes none..

It would never occur to me to use a preset. I have felt that way from the first time I saw the Roland VG-8. I turned on the "B.B. King" preset, and it had CHORUS. CHORUS on B.B. King. Not likely. You've got to fit things into the mix, always.

Like mixmkr said, presets are a good starting point, not an endpoint.

Sheesh! I think I need to get my eyes tested...

I thought the question said "Do you believe in priests..." - I mean, after all the shenanigans happening over in tax-a-chussetts...

Well, actually - I have a couple of HHB Radius-40s which I love and all the eq settings on those are in pre-set bands. Does that count? I don't know - I don't really care. Personally, I think that the number of choices should be reduced; people are spoiled for choices - there are so many choices available to them - perhaps they should read Aesop's Fable The Fox and The Cat

PC's plug in's presets have better approach than many on outboard's. Have you tried your new guitar multifx's presets ? what do you think ? hmmm....

I make and use my own presets - rarely ever factory ones. Chorus on BB King - that's hillarious :D

Hmmm... as in "Do I beleive that presets exist"???? Sure do.........! :p

In actual use, while they can be a starting point, they probably aren't directly applicable to whatever you're trying to use them on........... invariably, they need to be tweaked..........

I have one preset that works on everything all the time no matter what.

It's called "Mutt Lange"
I'm not sure what a Mutt Lange is, but damn! It works good!
