Most ribbon microphones I have ever seen are the ones with the headroom problem. Not the pre-amps that amplify their signals.
For the longest time, ribbon microphones had very limited applications because of their tendency to self destruct by miss-using them in very loud applications like Mic'ing a Marshall stack or letting the likes of David Lee Roth or Bon Scott to sing into them.
I am not completely up to speed on the latest Mic's out there on the market but I think your question is largely a non issue.
