I'm not an NI user like ecc83 but I have to say that any interface that suffered from clicks and pops on simple playback jobs would be even more frustrating when trying to record and mix. The unit has a good reputation for specialist recording tasks so I suspect the problems had more to do with the "general users" than the interface itself. If somebody is used to a 99 cent Realtek using basic MME drivers, trying to graduate to an interface that actually requires some set up might be a difficult transition.
