FWIW- I used a 428 for years with no problems....

Then I sold it to a friend who's been using it for another few years with no problems.

Probably depends on the computer's other software and what software you're using it with. It ran great with Cubase VST & SX1...yeah, it was a while ago. ;)

Take care,
Chris

You can also run the 002 off a PCMCIA firewire card. Cheaper than a new iMac if you want to consider it.

My thoughts exactly.

you can use the tascam us-428 just as a controller? Will it work with pro tools? I thought about getting a command 8.That will save me alot of money. I only have $5000 to buy new gear with.
I also thought about getting the digimax, is that a good pre amp for drums.

yes....actually the 428 is marketed as a controller. It's not a mixer. The faders do not control any audio level going to or from anywhere...nor does the panning knobs. They just send MIDI signals to the computer. The Command 8 will give you more flexibility, but the 428 will work just fine if you're just getting started.

yes, but what about the built in sound card? do i run it middi or usb? im thinking middi right?

are you talking about the 428 or the Pro Tool setup you were talking about getting?

well, to use audio with the 428 you have to use USB. Audio doesn't travel via MIDI. This also takes care of the controller part of the 428 at the same time.

If you want to use it as just a controller you should be able to just to plug it in via MIDI.

Thats what I thought. I have been useing it with the built in sound card.
Thanks man, you have really been a BIG help.
