Do all the reverbs in XL suck or what?

They're OK.

Not the best, but sure as h*ll not the worst either...

If you're looking for good reverbs, check out the Waves stuff...

Which Reverb in which XL are you talking about, gentelmen

I have come to the conclusion that ALL software reverbs suck. Even the Waves stuff - although it is a notch above most of the rest.

Either that or I don't know what the f*&k I'm doing (which is always a distinct possibility).

The other issue I've been wrestling with is "room sound" - i.e., how much of the "bad" sounding reverb is the result of the fact that the recordings are being done in a lousy sounding room. I haven't resolved that one for myself yet, but it could be a contributing factor.

Well... yeah. I can go along with that statement. I even feel more comfortable with a cheap Behringer reverb-unit (which I don't even own), but I think that is because I find hardware reverbs easier to control than software (for whatever reason, I don't know).

But I like soft-reverbs too. You can have thousands of different reverbs on a project (if you have the raw computer power) and with my budget that's better. I can't buy 10 different reverb-units... ;)

Higher Sample rate gives you better reverb sound...i personally love the Timeworksreverb X...some of the settings will set your computer back though ESPECIALLY @ 96khz...i have a dual Athlon MP1900+ and the highest quality settings make my computer hiccup when playin many tracks even at 44.1/48khz...@96khz a crash is almost inevitable w/the higher settings...TC reverb is cool too and easier to use....never got in to the waves reverbs too much i dunno y maybe cuz i like the timeworks stuff so much

I dunno, I'm reverbish oriented mix maker, but quite happy with either Cakewalk FX2, DSound, TC Native reverb, or Waves. Rarely I used my external FX (Zoom) cause I'm out of channel strip on my small 1202 mixer. The last song I post in the clinic (Pedullist's song) was mixed with reverb nothing but Cakewalk FX2. And it sounds good enough, I think (fit the song). So, I believe it's also about the man behind it & the sound he's after.

Yeah, the Cakewalk FX2 is a great reverb. That type of reverb is excellent! But it doesen't work on my system!

Is there any other reverbs like it?

sounds too 'cold' for my taste...but then i again i'm used to the timeworks joint...IMHO the best native reverb out for PC

I wasn't meaning to be funny -

just that everything I try seems to be dull or lifeless - irregardless of where I have recorded the source.

Q.

Little too "Cold" indeed...

It's old anyway...
Good is relative for me. I mean, I have also FX3 (Sound stage) but FX2 is way more simple to operate. So I used it rarely for "not so important" tracks only in one of aux bus.

Crap, I thought you were talking about SoundStage all along...

I thought FX2 was the amp-simulator...

My fault :D I forget the name... :o FX2 is Amp sim & Tape Sim...

I think it's Cakewalk FXReverb, what I was talking about :)

I think I can help with at least this...

There's an FXReverb which is not the same as the Soundstage. I think FXReverb comes from the FX1 pack, but is included in Sonar. Doesn't Sonar come with both the FX1 and FX2 packs? I have the individual FX packs, and I don't think I had to install them separately; I'm pretty sure they were included with Sonar, but not ProAudio versions. You can't buy them anymore individually, but FX3 I think you can, which is Soundstage, and has to be installed separately. That's assuming I remember how I installed everything awhile back. There should also be some other reverbs in the Cakewalk plugs, a reverb and a reverb mono, which I'm assuming are not so hot.

As for if any of them are worth anything, I haven't got a clue. I'm not even sure I know how exactly to use reverb, but I got a heck of a lot of it on my computer.

Have a great day!

All effects with names starting with FX, on the form FXNnnnn (as f.ex. FXReverb and FXChorus) is new DX8 effects first seen in Sonar 1... ;)

The FX1 pack and FX2 pack is some smaller plugins avaiable for PA9, now included in Sonar.

Definitely is not in FX1 pack, I think Cakewalk FX1 pack
is all about dynamics, compressors etc. Yes, fxreverb is
included since Sonar 1, like all those other fxchorus etc.
are automatible effects. And I think It sounds quite good,
very nice but not spectacular. Waves Masterverb is very nice too!

How about ANWIDA Soft DX Reverb? Anyone out there use that - how's it compare to these others you're talking about?

I just recently dl'd the Lite version, and I like it. It's at least much better than the piece of crap Cakewalk Reverb that came with my HS2002. I was even comtemplating getting the full version with more virtual knobs to tweak, although perhaps why I like the Lite version is because there aren't so many settings that I get confused - seems to happen quite easily :D.

Although, I'm also thinking about upgrading to SONAR, since, after all, ACKUS. ;) I wanna be a cool kid too. The FxReverb in SONAR sounds like it might suit me fine - I remember liking it when I was fiddling with the trial version. Decisions... decisions...

Thanks,
-Jeff
