DMP3 + RME Adi-2 or RNP + Behringer SRC2496?

The question "which is more important, preamp or converter" has been much discussed here, but I'd like to ask it one more time with a concrete example. The above mentioned combinations would cost about the same, but which one do you think would be a better update for a system that has both low quality pres and converters?

Note that I'm not very interested to read comments like "I would prefer Sytek" or "Apogee is much better than RME" or "just get RNP + RME"... The point of my question is which is a bigger step up in principle: a higher quality pre with a decent converter or a higher quality converter with a decent pre?
 
With your specific example, I would go with the DMP3 and the RME over the RNP and the Berry, because I would almost guarantee you that the RME has better converters than the Berry. As for the pre vs. converters issue, I believe that they are both very important, but a great pre probably wouldn't help out crappy converters all that much.
 
I'd say the first option. Just because there's no "Behringer" in it.
