Thank You for enduring my neverending questions, I have yet another; :D

I pretty sure I'm going to get a M-audio DMP3. The question is, when/if it becomes necessary to record more than one source simultaneously, will I still benefit from the better pre's of the DMP3, routed through my mackie 808m (additional sources running straight into the mackie)? I have only two inputs on my recording device (fostex MR8).

Thanx again,
CD

If you're mackie has Line ins then yes as these inputs will bypass the pres.

Do you know for sure you can bypass the pres in the MR-8? I know there was a thread or two on this fairly recently but I don't recall the outcome and I'm not familiar with the unit so you could try a search.

It sounds as if your audio signals may be going around the houses a bit too? How come you need to go through the mixer if you're using external pres? Remember every bit of circuitry a signal passes through, the audio quality is compromised a bit more.

It's great to upgrade pres but you MUST be sure you're not going through shitty pres elsewhere in your chain or you'll just be wasting money, and it's a good idea to keep that chain as short as you can.

Try and get a schematic of that MR 8 and see if the pres are bypassable (i think I just made up a word!)

Good luck with it.

Good luck with it.

Fostex says there is NO way to totally bypass the pres in the mr8, but if you turn the trim knobs all the way counter-clockwise to line, it "simulates" bypassing the pres.

I emailed them a while back with this very question and that is what I was told.
Good Luck!

The MR-8 is almost unuseable without a pre of some kind. I use a DMP3 with mine and it makes a huge difference.
