DMAN or Gadget

Iam trying to decide which card to buy. Just getting started into digital recording. Looking at the 4/24 gadget or the DMAN 2044. Will be adding mixer. Does anyone have advice. About these sound cards??? Thanks from begginer.
 
I've read some good reviews about the DMAN 2044. A while back MIDIMAN was selling them with a break-out box for $199. I bought one and have been happy with it--what little I've actually used it. It's a lot of card for the money. I don't think it has an onboard MIDI synth though.
 
Thanks for the help(tdukex). I am probably going to get the Midi Man in a couple of days. Could you tell me where I can get this $199 deal? Are there any other suggestions for a newcomer. Thanks.

I plug the 2044 every chance i get. I haven't heard of the $199 card w. break out box deal, if you find an ad i'd love to see the url. I don't have the break out box, but if your computer box is accessable, some labels on the included connectors should suit you just fine. Even with out the package deal mentioned, the card alone is a great buy.
 
I got mine at Guitar Center, and I saw it again with breakout box ($199)in their recent catalog. Also zzounds has it on their web page for $199 with breakout box.

I bought a DMAN about a month ago from Guitar Center and the only thing I would say is make sure when you install it that the slot you use is as far away from your other cards as possible. Your video card is the worst to install it next to, cause you get a lot of interferance from it. Also make sure you remove the jumpers so it's running in +4 Db mode.
 
Maybe this is a dumb question... But I'm looking at snagging a used 2044... Why would you put it in +4 db mode? What's that for?

I had two of these babies running in parallel.

let me tell you now that there are no drivers for anything after Windows 98SE.

That includes ME, 2000 and XP.

Let me repeat that... THERE ARE NO DRIVERS FOR ANY OS's after 98.

Besides that, they are great cards, and the one I have left ( I sold one). It will be going into the PC I do external recoridngs with.

Similar situation with Gadget Labs products. The company is out of business, no new driver updates. They work with Win 98, Win ME, Win NT4, but nothing after. I have a Wave 824 card running under Win 98 and love it, but I wouldn't buy one of their products at this time.
 
Chalk up one more for the Dman 2044. I've had 3 of them running at once. Just sold one last month with breakout box for $90. They're pretty cheap on e-bay. Occasionally some idiot will sell one un-opened for next to nothing. The one I bought with the break-out box was an auction for the break-out box only. $30... and it had a card in there, so score one for me! If you don't get a break-out box version, look at getting a patch-bay. The wires like to braid themselves into a pretty little black and white dread.

So now I've got $75 tied up in a sound card I can't even use because i'm running Win2k now. -_-

Anyone know how to get Win2k to NOT recognize this damned 2044 card as an Ess Maestro1 card??

dude... I guess I should have asked you your OS before I sold it to ya.. You can use a duel boot system. I've done that with the Dman 2044 and it worked fine. sorry 'bout that.
 
I've seen alot of crap on various boards about how people don't like Maudio and Midiman. I use a Delta 1010 and I love it and I love the support I get from M-Audio and Midiman. Not sure about an older product and using it on a newer OS, but my experience with them so far has been great. Just my $.02 about the company, should you chose to use one of their products :)

Yeah... at the time I had Win98SE... but then installed Win2k recently. I'm kickin' myself. *LOL* But I think I am going to set up a dual boot system on another drive... best way, I think.
 
would you knowingly put yourself through torture? i hope not, so keep the win2k install, leave win98se for dead, the thing is a shit hole, piece of crap. use win2k, it is the most stable windows OS yet to come out of that evil bastard of a company. The time you will save having to rerecord stuff from damaged HDs caused by win98 carshes will be saved in the $150 a delta 44 will cost used. believe me, win98 is an obsolete piece of software. Microsoft would like to have everyone believe that win2k is obsolete as wel, but its not true. Anyone developing on a windows platform uses it. XP is nothing new over win2k except for home multimedia features and standard drivers, but not pro-audio drivers. stay with win2k and a new card, you will kick yourself to death if you use win98.
 
Yeah, I see that. However, I spent $75 that i MOST DEFINITELY should not have spent on a card that now I can't even use. So, why not use Win98SE on my other drive until I can get the money to buy a newer card with? That is, AFTER I buy a new car. To me, a car with a working (and present) clutch is a bit higher on the priority ranking than a soundcard... seeing as I need to get to work and stuff.

Unless anyone wants to sell me a good working car dirt cheap. like... under $200? *LOL* Then I'm sure I'll be able to buy a Delta 44 or a 1010 sometime much sooner. *shrugs*
