Linux Man...
I am looking at a new mixer and I am curious if anyone has used the DM24, I think that is the number, the bigger digital one from tascam. (Black one). It looks pretty cool, but I am not sure it can do everything I need it to. I would like to be able to control cubase/nuendo with it in addition to having ADAT and TDIF i/o.
I also don't want to have to scroll through tons of screens to get to the paramters I need. How does it compare to o1V or Soundcraft 328? Just curious.

It's waaaaay better than those

It's waaaaay better than those mixers

You have to purchase (2) cards $250 for 24ch -- adat
There are already (3) TDIF ports connected
Mic Pre's are cool, but I use an external pre
Automation is easy and very precise, I mean like if you tap a button it writes that as a move on the spot ---
It does control CUBASE/NUENDO - but you need the maps

write now version 1.6 let's the PLAY function work along with
FF, RW, STOP, REC, MUTE, version 2.0 will allow ADAT SYNC to control ADAT so you wont need a BRC/MTP/JLCooper etc...

Antares/T.C.Electronic effects, eqs, are banging, the ROUTING is a damn lifesaver for me, instead of a patchbay, it has a kind of ON-SCREEN INTERNAL patchbay. LET ME TELL YOU, YA DONT KNOW WHAT YOUR MISSING. I have it hooked to my MDR & D.P/Motu MKII, P.C. it rocks. I was considering only 2 boards: DA7MKII and the SONY 2000, it was just a matter of convenience and ease to get the DM24, plus there support is BAAAAANGIN, also

DA7MKII - $7000.00
SONY 2000 - $20,000.00 (revamped 96k O2R/w 32ch

DM24 - $ 2100.00 (32 ch, 16 mic pres, 12ch @ 96K, 24 @ 44/48K
8 buss.

You can take it from there, and visit www.tascam.com, my name is BOOKY on the list --- read how many people love the board

See Tascam forum

Hi, I don't own one, but was considering it. I went to the Tascam forum for info, and they have a digital mixer catagory. There is a debate(a heated one) going on right now that you should at least read, regarding this. Thats not to say I am giving an opinion on it. I KNOW NOTHING...:D

Re: It's waaaaay better than those

One thing I will suggest, for maximum flexibility, is this:

Instead of adat cards, buy analog cards. Then buy a used Motu 2408 MKII (24-bit) device. These Motu's can be used as a dumb format converter without hooking it to the PC at all. This way, you have your 3 tdif on the mixer, and 3 adat out the Motu. It costs the same as buying three IF-TAD tascam format converters and has the convienence of being rack mountable.

With the analog card I believe you can route effects and stuff in/out of them. Someone correct me please if I am incorrect.

You can also get more information at the tascam BBS which is at http://209.216.16.19/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi Lots of good folks there and Tascam employees directly participate, which is really nice. Yes, its free.
