DM-24 and RCA connections

How do you connect a CD player with RCA jacks to the DM-24? I'm still very new to the mixer. I haven't had success with connecting the jacks to the "2TRK In". When connecting the RCA to a plug that combines the Left and Right signals into a single stereo plug, then connecting this to an auxillary in, I can only hear one side of the source. With a balanced input, shouldn't I be able to hear the stereo source?

I usually just connect it into the RCA connections you mentioned.
2 track in. However, make sure you press the 2 track button in the control room section. (And not stereo mix.) This will let the 2 track ins be routed to the control room instead of the channels.

Those are the little buttons next to the screen.
