DLL Hell

Has anyone encountered this error when trying to run Acid Pro (in Win 98SE) "Rundll32 caused an invalid page fault in Kernel32.dll" ?

Acid Pro runs, but I'm unable to access any Plugins. Anyone know of a solution?

Sounds like it is trying to load a plugin (dll) upon startup that isn't there anymore.

reinstall Acid?

Uninstall and reinstall your plugins?

Maybe just install one new plugin.

There's a cool Dx plugin manager utility over at analogx.com, that might help you get a handle on things.

Yeah, I've been through all the Windows troubleshooting pages at the evil empire. They all basically say "there are a 1001 reasons why this could be happening". I was hoping someone had encounter it specifically and found a fix.

I've already reinstalled two different releases of the software plus my OS. Next I'm going to try turning off any high speed settings in my BIOS. Hope it works. If it persists, I might just have to move to WinXP.

The very latest Acid Pro 3.0e

My old Acid 1.0 works with no problems.
 
Windows ME is no good...

Aw, man... Thos Kernel32.dll errors drove me nuts for like a year after I switched to ME. Switch to XP. It's the only way to fully rid yourself of the Kernel32 plague.

Not only does Acid do that, I've had the same problems with other programs running in Windows ME.

XP is the way to go, baby. :)

Is ACID 3.0 installed on a machine that has access to the internet?

ZoneAlarm tells me ACID is trying to "phone home"...

Yes, it has internet access. Unfortunately I can't dedicate the machine as a DAW.
I'm at work so I can't see it directly, the manual says that Acid has Online Help. The only things I can find to disable is Net Notify. Maybe this will work?

I looked at the Bios last night and there are no "high performance" options like MS says to look out for. I also turned off the graphics accelerator, but that didn't help.
