I've checked just about ALL of the big-&-little-named world percussion dealers that Google has to offer in my search to find the right Djembe stand for my arsenal. I've got 4 Djembes with head sizes ranging from about 10" to 16" or so and am looking to set them all up to standing-position play. Now, I can sit and play or invest in Djembe straps which isn't the problem. But what I'm looking to do is be able to utilize my entire percussion set up, simoultaneously.

My problem is this: I stand 6 feet, 2 inches and require a "comfortable" playing height of up to 3.5 to 3.8 feet. Every Djembe stand I've looked at online show no evidence in either description or manufacturer correspondence of even reaching these heights.

Does anyone know where I can find Djembe stands made, specifically, for standing-position play that can reach my desired heights??

I got this one...............

I play djembe for a West African dance company and I sometimes use some of my djembes as alternate instruments for other performances. Michael "Babatunde" Olatunji (who I knew fairly well) was the only native African that I know that played a djembe on a stand and what he used was something based on the taller conga stands, These are easy enough to make with a few good rings and steel legs. I have made a few and also use the old style taller conga stands. I use pipe insulation foam tubing over the rings to keep them wearing on the ropes of the djembe. You want the rings to be snug enough to cradle the bell of the djembe only a few inches higher than the bottom tuning ring on the djembe. You want the legs to be adjustable so you can raise or lower the height (telescoping or if you have the flat steel legs, they should have bolt adjustment/
, I use bungee cords to hold the trumpet part of the djembe from shifting when played and hook them onto the legs and make a cradle a lot like a shock mount for a mic.
I have used as many as six of these stands at a time in a performance for djembes, ashikos and bass doumbeks while I had my lead doumbek on a strap to my side.
For traditional West African performances, I always use just the one djembe on a strap. But for some of the more modern and fusion performances, I have everything from djembes on stands, dunnuns, tupans, doumbeks, drum kit, cymbals gongs, kryins, blocks and all sorts of other percussion instruments. I even have a riq and a muzhar on a stand, and a rack of frame drums.

Is a strap unsuitable? That's my prefered way of carrying djembes, but doesn't work if you need freedom of movement and want to play more than one at a time.

There's a remo stand on amazon worth checking out, dunno if it's adjustable. Sounds like you're going to have to go custom....

There's people that will make custom stands for you djembefola.com/board/buy-and-sell/advice-dunun-stand-pricing-t515.html

I've see djembe's put on normal percussion stands like what timbales are on. You just need to screw through the wood. I'm allso seen a massive djembe stand that Mamady Keita used at his house which has 2 bolts squeezed in one from each side, I may be over kill on anything but a Huuuggeee djembe though.
