The tune I posted is from "Djangology 49".Django was older and ill and this was his final session with Grappelli, recorded in a hotel ballroom in Italy where Django was booked for the season.Listen for the cigarette cough at the one minute mark.He obviously has a lot of fluid on his lungs.
The Italian sidemen were in awe of Django.Listen to him take control of the tempo after the piano solo. His rhythm playing is awesome. We don't need to speak about his hands, but just TRY to duplicate his playing with all your fingers functional!
I work for a music company called RBI.One of our former employees was Zeke Campbell, who played lead guitar for the Light Crust Doughboys.I saw them in a Gene Autry movie from the 30s and Zeke's solos were obviously Django based.Even cowboy music was heavily influenced! What to speak of Charlie Christian, generally credited with being the first "modern" guitar soloist.
