Is a DJ considered a musician!!??
Sampling,delay,echo,hi-lo pass filtering,flange/phase-shifting &
certain-types of 'Verbs are the most often used efx most DJ's use.
Not knowing your budget nad judging from your experience with
Numark mixers (cross-faders always lose conductivity after approx
6 months of constant use & phono pre's are rated the lowest amongst RIAA standards) skip the Kaoss & check out
the Electribe
or that
Alesis AirFx thingy.
Me, I'm a musician (though I've had a few opportunities to rock a party on the wheels-of-steel) and not a DJ,yet I've seen many DJ's
turn out a jammie w/o efx. With the exception of a 6-bank, 24-60
second Sampler, which I believe all DJ's should have in their arsenal,Efx ,IMHO,are not necessary for a talented turntabilist who's mixing, cutting & scratching ability with the skill to choose
the proper LP's to keep the party bouncin'! Unless you're into
Trance,Techno or Trip-Hop,let your own personal skills shine thru!
BTW, don't mean to be nag,but next time, try posting DJ questions
in the Rap/Hip-Hop forum here. You'll get way better responses
than what I have just provided!
Peace
