Question: Has anyone here made their own Subkick (Yahama style)? I've been looking around and I know it'd be much, much cheaper just to make one for myself than to buy one. My only question is, if anyone here has made one, how is it mounted? Yamaha's is in a drum shell. I've also seen them on mic stands, but they look so unstable. Anyone?

I've seen a couple, but I have no idea how you could make one yourself.

I haven't done it, but I've seen a bunch of threads on various MB's. Basically it looks like you get a woofer (quality is up to you), you strip an xlr cable and wire it to the woofer, find a way to mount the woofer and you're good to go.
Try a google search. I've stumbled across a few detailed threads and links to people's website showing how this is done.

Oh, another question about that: woofer or paper-coned speaker, which would be best for this?

My friend and I just used the complete woofer and cabinet. Pulled the woofer, wired it, ran the wires out the back of the cab, then remounted the woofer. Pretty interesting to say the least. Be careful though, seems you can easily blow things up if you don't watch your levels! :D
