What's up with this PVC glue? Is it just in the PVC section?

Yeah...it'll be right there. If it matters. I used the blue packaged stuff they use on water pipes for pools and stuff just because it sounded good to me. Probably overkill but it's like a buck more (bringin the total to a whopping 3 bucks) and I know its moisture proof.

And yeah!!!! It's nasty stuff. Take the advice on not breathing it. Also...it dries like super glue. That's why I gave advice on using the floor for straightness....you get one shot only!!!! For about 5 or 6 seconds. Practice putting it on before you actually do it.

I went to Lowe's last night and they had like a dozen different style flanges. Some of them were just rings, and they looked more like the ones in the pics, but others had caps and still others had caps with a little handle lookin thing on top. Which one did you use? ...and if the ring version, did you seal the tops and bottom with anything to prevent sand from leaking out?

jeeezzz............

How to answer....

Well

It's a female toilet flange so the PVC fits inside of it but there is a ring around it which is the base with 4 screw holes and usually 2 cutouts for twisting onto a screw. I looked for some pics on the net.....hopefully these will help.

The PVC glue seals between the pipe and flange and then I used some RTV silicone gasket maker to seal from leakage of sand between the wood and the flange. Hope this makes more sense.

Let me know if anyone needs any clarification

I built mine tonight...except for the wood tops and bottoms (do you ever find it difficult to find someone to help at Lowe's?). They apparently got some new toilet flanges in that have a recessed cap that you're supposed to remove once you have it installed, but it works perfectly to contain the sand. Looks just like the pic you posted, but with a cap in it.

Beware the PVC glue! I'm reeling from the odors...or maybe it's the bottle of wine I drank. ;) Thanks for the heads up on these things. My new Yorkvilles will soon have a new home.

Glad to hear it, Elevate. I'd never seen the flanges you speak of but it sounds cool if I imagine it correctly. The bottom line is that they work, though, and it sounds like they do! Cool!

Oh yeah......don't drink the pvc glue:D
