Has anyone a good plan for monitor stands. I want to make them myself. Or anything els that can help.
Thanx!

1) PVC tubes, a few pieces of MDF and a bag'o'sand to fill them up.. Paint to desired color....

2) Concrete: make a mold, pour in concrete and paint to desired color...

If you want to you could add those spikes used a lot with hi-fi gear to the PVC stands, but if they're tall enough I doubt it will improve anything. Decoupling is the key word.

I tought about something like that too. But what about the height. This way it won't be adjustable. What's the ideal height monitors should be actually?

Won't be adjustable no, but they never are. Get them at ear-height preferably. Pointing down or up to you isn't desirable. Check these out (unpainted, and sitting on the desk until I have another, smaller desk so I can put them on stands on the floor):

Someone had the idea to use toilet flanges and pvc to make the stands. Filled with sand. this could be out together in about 30 minutes... Unadjustable? what do you mean, you don't own a hacksaw? :D :D

Haven't gotten around to building mine as of yet.

Poet,
I'm glad I'm not the only one with a desktpop that looks like that.

whaddayamean ? I cleaned it for the picture :D :D

It's a friggin' mess and if I clean it I can't keep it that way for about .... 30 minutes...
(wait until we move, I'll never let any papers lay around on my Ghost+radar setup :D  )

I wish....

The PVC is glued at the bottom and open at the top for now. This is not my final setup -> rented house. My guess is the concrete variation will be more effective though.

I built a pair with PVC pipe, toilet flanges and a couple squares of melamine, with play sand as the "acoustic decoupler" in the tubes. Just hardware store parts. I paid less than $50 for everything. I cut the pipes on my tablesaw and the edges are slicker'n goose crap...

Opps! Here's a pic...

Ahhhhh. The ever-present lava lamp. An absolute necessity in any studio regardless of size.

Feel the vibe ..............

I made some using the toilet flanges and PVC pipe plans. What makes them look really good is the gray paint with speckles in it, like textured paint.

I will post pictures when I am on the right computer.

I made some once, out of galvanized pipe, some aluminium tubing, and and electrical junction box. Just go to the hardware store and figure it out yourself. It's actually really fun.

Thanx a lot people, I really got some inspiration now. I think I can work something out. Does anyone know some articles about monitor placing and stuff?

I am in the process of building stands and was wondering if the decoupling material could be something else than sand, like some type of foam they sell in hardware stores?

I don't think it really matters wich material it is as long it's heavy. So it can absorb certian vibrations. I don't think foam is suited though.
