I don't remember where I saw that but some guy wasn't telling how to build a MIDI controller on his website and their were all these people showing the one they made. Was looking good with that little LED screen :)

Anyway, if anyone remembers the url of the website, I would gladly appreciate it.

Thanks,

Make sure your handy with a soldering iron!

Cool dude! You just earned yourself a place amongst my favorites. (I'm building a modular, this kinda thing me likes...)

I was wondering: Could the MIDIbox principle could be expanded to a DIY mixer or it's just something different?

That's something completely different!

Aouch! For that you'd need to completely forget about the microcontroller part, and add a summing amp. So, guess you could only keep the pots... :D And if you want it perfect, a VCA for each channel that you can then send by the direct signal of the pot or maybe a DAC after the microcontroller...

If you mean digital mixer, you have to get AD convertors for each channel (or some multiplexed over the channels) and blahblah...

That's really DIY on a higher level. Way harder to do...

There's a basic mixer available from OakleySound. You can maybe check the schematic; don't know if it's password protected...

Just re-read my second post in the thread and actually I was thanking Rochey not bushice.

Sorry :)

Peace,

Well... Making your own mixer is NOT an easy task.

Sure, we could link up some pots, maybe a few opamps as well (make sure they are burr brown...)

but the noise on the board would be terrible. I don't think any of us here are PCB layout specialists!!! (although i'm waiting to be proved wrong - theres always one!)

I think the midibox is a great idea. I will be making one myself as soon as i finish working abroad.

Actually, the guy that does the oakleysound stuff worked for soundcraft. So I guess his mixer should be okay. Haven't finished mine yet. Doesn't seem all that hard to do.

But it's only a mixer. No micpre's, no eq, just four inputs, four pots and one output. (And a clipping led...)

And btw, noisy circuits can be cool too. :D I have build me a crackle box, which is just a basic amplifier circuit, with a 9v battery and speaker connected. There's six touching points on the circuit, and it squirks and squeeks and oscilates according to how and which of those touching points you touch. Alot of fun. And very annoying to for everyone else in the room. :D

Have you guys ever seen a modded Speak 'n Spell?

Apparently, by bridging wires accross the board, it's possible to make the old Texas Instruments Speak n Spell boards make some really funky noises

You mean like circuit bending? Do a search on 'circuit bending' in a search engine. It's kindof a 'musical technique' that consists of making wrong connections and shortcuts in electronic instruments and toys. I stumbled on a link once that even had a 'manual' on how to do it... If you find good links, let me know!
