if i were you.. i would just wait a few days for me to finish these plans and post them... i need to check i can post them here if not i will sort a site out to grab them from.. also the base is easy, you make the legs, front and rear panels then the rear and front shelves then you need to put a mixer onto the top and measure the base to the top of its meter bridge ( if it has one) to get the height of the rear bracket that supports the rear upright panel that takes thhe flyover shelf 140 degrees hinges.

this is simple but you need to see the whole thing also the inserts have a step in them this is because, the front shelf is flush with the top of the side panel but the rear shelf sits on top.. thats why the inset has a notch cut into the rear for it to sit into the shelf to prevent rear movement, also when the armrest is fitted it stops forward movement and therefore locks it in place.

the cam and dowels have to be exact and the depths have to be exact also otherwise you may comethrough the panels. the hinge holes are the same. but!!!! i will post all measurement for these in detail and how to line up and place them..... it will be an idiots guide.... i cannot make it anymore clear.. all the work will be done.. you just follow the plans.. personally i cant wait to see your own creations..

remember before you start you need a good set of legs, these are all metal.. nice and easy and any metal works can make them for you in less than an hour... if not you could ask frederik to make them for you im sure he would at a decent price of course!!!!!

the legs are easy two pieces of box section, some folded plate and 4 pieces of flat..
i will try and get those up here shortly so you have something to start with.

oh and a pair of steel legs... but these legs have to balanced out to take .. the consoles weight and the users weight whilst leaning on the arm rest.. if you dont calculate that in then the unit will topple forward and crush your legs..

Thats why I bolted the legs to a floating floor module. They're also cable chases. Makes for clean lines too. Theres no feet extentions to get in the way.

i understand the legs. but the flat panel on the front... how is that attached? What is used to keep that from snapping off when someone leans
their weight on it?

Mine is all welded steel frames. The padded arm rest is bolted to a steel extension. The armrest hides a linear motion track for rolling computer keyboard and remote carriages, and headphone out/hi Z in modules at each end of the console. I can STAND on the armrest.

the front sections of the legs are only a 20 inches from the sides this mean that there is loads of room from the sides to the center allowing loads of room for the user to move in, also by having these legs it allows the user to move the unit at anytime he chooses, also the rear panel is removeable allowing for cable access also behind the console there is more than a 5inch by 9 inch cable run, also there is cable trunking in the cavity unit.

the flyover shelf allows users to remove specific sections if required or just lift the lid up for easy access and as they are 140 degree adjustable hinges the user can adjust them to be vertical or to lean back upto 140 degrees from flat.

looking at yours rick you have to rotate the whole shelf all the way over 180 degrees so you have to physically hold the shelf while rotating it all the way back otherwise it will just fall back and whilst leaning over the mixer.. unless you have some thing there to help you wih that i didnt see however, i do like the layout of the unit, cant wait to see a full picture..

the joy of this console is that it takes a few pieces of mdf and some fixings and some basic metalwork

Hello pk1, wasn't trying to compete, only show alternatives. And yes, there are MANY things that are not shown here. Hoodrelease lockdowns, hatch cover hydrolic hood supports, not to mention the hood lifts off. I constantly modify this. There are liftout panels, the belly cabinet is aircooled with a two leaf floated computer bay for 2 computers, two kinds of linear motion tracks for brackets for monitors and lights, and numerous other things. I'll post NEW pics as soon as I can. Here are a few more OLD pics. Since these were taken, the frame has been repainted, and lots of modifications. These pics suck too.

hey rick.. i know that im just trying to see what it is youve got there as there were no picys of the whole unit. im open to anything here and i love the fact that im not the only one out there making consoles at home.. prehaps we ought to have a new special forum called shop class

yea there are always alternatives.. one mans wood is anothers metal..

all of our ideas can be taken and implemented by the many many people who browse this site, im just glad to be a part of something bigger and im please to share my info with you guys here.. hell im good with wood and all but im no genius...

sorry for the quietness in posting from me.. i have been waiting for the armrest.. i cant do the endpanels till the armrest is down then i can make the template and apply it in autocad for the cnc people to use.

assembly 101

first. make leg.. then attatch leg to rear panel, then attatch front panel, locate right side panel and attatch (same with left!!).

attatch front shelf, then locate parts for rear panel shelf, upright brackets, rear upright and lower shelf.

join together and attatch to console.

locate flyover shelves and attatch to clip on plates

then locate inserts, one with racks, one without for detail, insert consoles and inset.

and then wait for the goddam armrest to bloody turn up so i can make the end panels and get this powder coated so i can finish it... grrrrrrrr
