jesus christ. I guess i'll really crank the shit out of it next time. Any other advice?

any tips on isolating the sound of my amp? I have it in the closet with some clothes hanging, and I put a mat on the floor and pillows and stuff in the corners. Should I put a thick quilt over the amp and mics?

Even a 50-watt tube amp can be blisteringly loud.

Hell, my 18 watt Marshall makes my fricken ears bleed - seriously. But, it really doesn't "shine" till it gets to about 8 1/2, so I wear ear plugs when I play. :D

Ericlingus - the heavy tube distortion comes from soaking the power tubes - gotta crank it for that to happen. To lower the noise, you can build an iso chamber - or at least get it up off the floor - that will help a little bit.

Yeah...I wouldn't muck with that tone. Sounded pretty good for what your intending to do with it. No need to add any sort of distortion pedal to that. Maybe an overdrive pedal for leads, but that's it.

the iso cabinet is a great idea for you. you can build one yourself, not really all that hard, it will allow you to record your amp full blast, your (advised) dependency on earplugs will be lessened, etc.

You may not love Ed Van Halen but he (reportedly) got his signature overdriven sound by dialing everything to 10, everything. plus some other stuff I know I know, but the point here is you can squeeze all the overdrive out of your amp by diming the beast.

+1 for master vol set to 10 and dial in the gain.

would an iso box help more than just putting the amp in the closet and then putting a lot of padding in there?
