Distortion Issues

Hey guys. I'm a home recording newb who lurked on here to find some information about getting a startup set. I found out that the more I learned the less i knew so with a very modest budget I picked up an Electro-Voice 635A omnidirectional mic and a Lexicon Omega interface.

It worked fine for the first week, then the interface gave me trouble, not giving a signal to the computer. Whatever, it's $150. But I got it working again.

My trouble is that now when I put the mic in direct mode (direct mode being that I hear what I play as I play), it sounds crystal clear and great in the headphones. But when I record into cubase or the basic microsoft recorder, there is a lot of distortion and it sounds horrible.

Is there something wrong with my interface? Mic? I've tried a number of software/hardware things but nothing is working.

Thanks for all the advice, everyone. I appreciate it.

That's funny. A friend of mine had this exact same unit and had the exact same problem. He sent it back 3 times and got the same result every single time. Certainly not enough incidents to prove that the product is faulty but enough to make you wonder...

i have a friend w/ a presonus inspire who has the same issue as well

my inclination would be to say that you're probably clipping...but if it sounds fine when tracking, and is f'd up on playback, that most likely wouldn't be the case

it's probably some sort of sampling/buffer issue - i would try contacting the manufacturer's tech support, or maybe their website/bulletin board to see if they can offer any clues

I got this interface today and I had the same problem when trying to record onto Cubase but when I did it with Audacity it was fine. I don't know what the problem is.
