distortion guitar problems

when i play a chord or a note on my guitar with distortion and let it ring for any substantial amount of time i start to get a very low, very loud kind of feedback that overtakes everything. needless to say it's making recording rather difficult. the noise is louder the less notes the guitar plays, for example letting a full chord ring creates less noise than letting one string ring out.

also when a chord rings out the note will fluctuate in volume, almost as if i was hitting the tremelo but without changing the pitch. can anyone help with this?

if no one quite understands what i'm describing i can record examples of them and email them.

Record examples. It could be just feedback, but without hearing it who knows.

It sounds like a compressor could be on too tight or you're getting some weird feedback. How loud were you monitoring when you recorded? Is there a compressor on the track?

I don't hear any feedback by my definition of feedback.

I do hear the chord just left on its own with maybe a bit of resonating on the bottom end but nothing unusual or that I wouldn't handle by string muting either with my picking hand or fretting hand.

I don't hear anything abnormal other than that's a lot of gain.

I agree with Sonixx and Guitargodgt Guitargodgt, I don't hear anything abnormal either.

If your going through an Amp, try upping the mid and dropping the bass. It sounds to me like the bass is cranked up causing low end rumble.

The warbling you are talking about (the volume fluctuations) are you pulling your strings slightly out of tune. (or you could just not be in tune) Play the low string at the 5th fret and the next string, if they are just a little out of tune, it will do that especially with the sound you are using.

Was that recorded direct? A cabinet simulator could help balance the sound a bit. As soon as you take away all the midrange, you start losing the balance of the tone.

Most of the notes you are playing on a guitar happen in the midrange. If you suck out the mids, you are left with nothing but overtones and harmonics of the notes you are playing.
