I AM LOOKING FOR SOME GOOD WAYS TO ADD DISTORTION TO MY VOCAL TRACKS.WHAT TYPE AND DO I ADD IT DURING RECORDING OR AT MIXDOWN ?

If you're "just learning" like me, you could record "clean" then
experiment with effect later.
One resource would be to investigate the groundbreaking engineering of Geoff Emerick and George Martin with The Beatles.
Then you would have familiar songs to reference the various effects with. Another excellent resource would be Jimi Hendrix's
recordings. (along with many other rock groups/artists)

Test out the Joe Meek line of equipment too!
They have a vintage 60's tone with their EQ and compression
units...

Are you looking to actually distort your vox? Or just use that comb filter(boxy lo-fi) effect that a lot of people are into nowadays?
I agree with Chess though, either way, you should track them clean, then decide whats best. Try cutting the highs and lows maybe boost the mids, then throw on a quick delay.

Try a mic into a guitar amp, or use a distortion pedal. Amp simulators are good for this type of stuff. I've even used a pre amp overddriven into a mixers preamp then compressed to crap for an interesting cold buzz.
