Hi everyone! Got a neat problem for y'all to mull over. Sometimes when I record audio in Cuebase, I get an extremely distorted sound. I can often (but not always) avoid it by doing a RESET DEVICES just before recording. I also occsionally get an empty track recorded. Another problem I'm having is I occasionally get a "burp" in the metronome/timing. Kind of stutters a bit. Finally, Almost always, unless I exit the program and start it up and go right to EXPORT AUDIO (to a WAV file), the computer will completely lock up necessitating a reboot via the reset button. My setup is as follows: P-III/866, 256Megs/RAM, 40GIG HD (only about 1/10th used), SiS motherboard/chipset (PCCHIPS) with onboard sound/video. Using 8 Megs for video. NOT using the onboard sound - Using a Project Card. Display resolution dropped from 24bits to 16 bits. NOT using fixed Virtual Memory. MIDI interface is a MOTU MIDI Express XT (Parallel port). System is set up on a UPS. Networked (set up with 100MB/Auto Sense). OS is Win98SE. Also have Norton System Works installed and have taken the clock out of the System Tray. Power Management to minimal and everything set to "never". Also have shut off all system sounds and screensaver.

Any takers??????

(Nice forum, BTW)

Make sure there's nothing running in the background.

Hit ctrl-alt-delte and if there's alot of programs listed there, shut everything down except your recording software and systray.

If you are seeing alot of things on that list run msconfig from the start menu of windows and go to the startup tab and uncheck everything but scanregistry and systray and possibly your virus checker. I have it running in the background and it doesn't seem to bother anything.

This is all the comes to mind. see if that helps. I have a PII-400 and it's running close to perfect, so i don't see any reason your wouldn't either.

Hope this helps,
Brandon

Finally figured something out for the distortion problem. All I have to do is select reset on stop (at least I 'think' it's stop...) and all's well.
