distorted cymbal of death

hello fellow gear-pimps,

I have small problem.. I have been recording a demo for a band with the Presonus FireBox and I used a 12 track YAMAHA mixer to mix the drum tracks into the line-in on the FireBox. My problem is that I didn't notice until after recording that there is this one cymbal that is too loud to the point of distortion - the drummer has got about 10 cymbals on his kit but this is the only one that is too loud. Is there some way to process the track so that these distorted peaks are reduced/softened. I've tried some filter plugins and such but I´m kinda lost..... I don't have the option (time) to re-record the drums so I've got to do something

narrow band EQ. Boost and sweep till you find the offending frequency then you could try compressing just that band or cutting the frequency...sometimes a DeEsser might work. But if the wave form is actualy clipped (flatlined) then you're probably screwed....

I regularly use a DeEsser on snares, hi-hats and cymbals, as I tend to distort, contort and bit-crush/alias the shit out of my drums (I am noisewreck afterall ). The DeEsser helps me keep them distorted, but non-irritating, which is important to me.

In your case, would it be possible for you to just cut that hit and replace it with another from another part of the track?

BTW, would you be willing to send me that distorted hit, so I can use it as a sample in my own tunes?
