IT'S MORE THAN A FEEEEEELIIINNGGG...YEAH, WHEN I HEAR THIS CRAPPY SONG, BABE....IT'S MORE THAN A FEEEEELIIIIINGGGG(sung in an octave thot only very small dogs can hear)
I wish I could get Tom Scholz's tone. The guy actually patented it, I think. He sold a box or something. Anyway, erichenryus, I hear you, and I'm removing all the FX immediately. FLAPO...THANKS! I'm keeping all the effects!!! Pry the autotune out of my cold, dead hands if you dare!!!

Seriously, I don't mind being the resident AUTOTUNE punching bag, but I'd LOVE some EQ tips on these drums...quick. :D Any suggestions on how I can take this one stereo drum track and EQ it so the kick's not so boomy, while still keeping the snare from sounding like a paper bag??? ANYBODY??

Sorry to sound so freakin' desperate; I know it's just music (and THAT's questionable at this point), but I need to mail this silly song now).

[edit] - I SINCERELY APPRECIATE THE TIME YOU PEOPLE ARE TAKING AWAY FROM YOUR LIVES...Seems I forgot to say "Thank You" for listening. Very cool of you.

I think you should crank the auto tune even higher, it still sounds a little like a vocal track...
LM@O :D :D

That's fuuuuuuunny.... :p

Yeah... I'm not one of those purists who beleives autotune is of thee deviiiil... but I do prefer when you can't blatantly tell that it's being used... but oh well... who gives a crap.. :D

As for the new drums... I dunno.. they're a little better... I... guess... :p (yeah.. I know.. I'm never gonna like a canned drum track... oh well...)

WATYF

P.S. Even though I'm the most bah-humbuggish person there is, I'm actually considering putting up my own Christmas tune... (inspired by all the ones popping up around here....) somebody please talk me oat of it.... :p

wheres participant, when you need him??

chris,

im no expert( like i even needed to say that) :D but im stuck dealing with the same drum scenario. cool edit, right???

try a cut at about 70 hz, with the parametric. that will usually cut some of the boom from the kick, without messing with the snare to bad. and sometimes its good to start with the preset........"250 hz cut with low end shelf" and work from there. i wish i had some better advice?? just screw with the parametric , 'till your head hurts:D

i haven't listened to the tune yet, but im am headed that direction!!

peace

rick

The drum entering sound very funky (not as in funky = jamming, but like just weird) What the hell is up with those panning drum things. They distract me. I like the song, though. If you'd like to use some kind of weird drum panning thing in the final version, I'd recommend a little different approach. I guess you could make a center drum track, and do those extra fills on top somehow, rather than panning the whole drum thing...

This song is definitely worth doing again. There's not that much wrong with this. I like the guitars too. Hell, the production sounds better than on the latest Oasis album. (totally off-topic... but what the hell is it with the mixing on some new albums. Is it trendy trying to come up with a crappy sound? I mean, come on, the latest Oasis album had an awful sound, at least to me.)

chris,

I'm not hearing any "boominess" in the kick drum.... yes, the snare sounds a bit brittle...

Are you EQ'ing the drums at all? Make sure to put-back anything you sliced out between 215Hz & 500... it's making the snare sound paper thin.... if not, try a gentle boost right there... (no more than 2-3 db)

If you're worried about the kick drum, it's probably because it sounds a bit "soft" ... try a gentle boost somewhere between 3k~4kHz until you can hear the click. Sweep it to find the sweet spot.

This may help your drums... if not, you may need to getcha some new drum tracks!

EDIT: Try fender's suggestion, too... a low shelf might help.

Man, it's like having engineers on TAP! You guys rule.
WATYF - I think it would be a great idea for you to do a Christmas song. Please use autotune on it so I can focus in on that and harp on it and tell you how much I love it. :D :D

rick - I hear ya'. I actually started off with that preset (250 cut with a low end shelf), and I'm getting from chad that I killed the snare...but the low rolloff thing @70Hz seems to be working.

Cranky One - Thanks for stopping by. I FUCKING HATE DRUMS...ALL OF THEM. I HATE THEM WITH A SCREAMING PASSION THAT IS NORMALLY RESERVED FOR PEOPLE LIKE HITLER AND B.SABBATH!!! (now see, that was a joke...here's some smiley's to prove it). :D :D :D Anyhoo, trying to patch in a little more realistic intro now, and the panning is going out the window.

chad - sorry to make you listen again, buddy...but I really appreciate it. Putting some low mids back in (Q=.45), and some "click" too. Thanks for helping, as always.

I'm sure when I get this tune back up, the BBS will be down, so I'll say it now...IT'S AS GOOD/BAD AS IT'S GONNA' GET AFTER THIS ONE. THANK YOU ALL.

I LOVE AUTOTUNE AND JUST BOUGHT STOCK IN ANTARES...

"Final" version is up. Jamal's still out of commission, but I think it works a lot better than the first run.

I'll say this...the solo break absolutely kicks ass. Not b/c of the lame solo I played, but b/c of the drums. Barely organized chaos. I love that break.

BTW - About the "canned" drums comment. I don't know exactly what that means; I know he played on a Yamaha V-Kit. So maybe it's a reference to the electronic nature of the kit. But I'll say this, I sent Jamal a file with no click intro, no click PERIOD, absolutely no idea what the BPM was...nothing. Just sent him the music, and he played over it in real time. I was going for a "live" sound on this, and I think he did a great job. Okay, enough of the "Jamal Is Great" from me. Dude's an asshole, but he's got chops.

Man, that solo break...

I'm done...ignore this thread now. Thank you. Sorry for clogging up the cliinic. I'll go back to my sappy acoustic stuff now.

:D

Chris,

Still dl'ing the new version... but I gotta tell you this before I forget...

It's almost too obvious--

It's about "Old Yeller". In the uptempo section (chorus), there's a banjo part that's just dying to be in there. A banjo would kick the thing out... into overdrive.

I was hearing it in my head, after about the third time... would play it for ya... if'n I had a banjo... and could play it :D (Three-note arpeggios, 16th notes, following the changes of course...)

-C

EDIT: Hearing it now (AWAY)... yeah, the snare sounds a lot better... toms sound good... some of the fills sound extremely odd (reverse reverb & stuff... cymbals are weird... but that's just how they sound  )

Best version so far.

I like your song man. Are you english? Every time I hear you sing I get a dejavu kinda thing sorta. Makes me think of and old group I liked called small faces..
anyways I can tell you been busy :) I would have never pegged that as an acoustic. Neat as hell.. Drums are big.

CHAD: You should live closer. Seriously, it's a shame, really. I know exactly what you're talking about with the banjo...lol. I think there's a more prominet reason why you hear it "in your head." If you listen, closely...as you always do, over on the right, there's a capo'd acoustic doing an almost banjo-like run. I totally heard it in my head too. Yeah, Utah's nowhere for music...move here. LOL.

TOKI - You have good taste in music ('cept for this song, maybe :D ). Small Faces...tastey. Not a Brit here, but you can definitely hear my brit-pop adoration coming through in this one, I think. I'm just glad you didn't say it sounds like country. I'll pass on your drum comments to Jamal. Thanks, man.

HEY PARTY PANTS!!

The other thing I was gonna' say is that it is very cool to me personally that you're actually listening to that tune. Now, back to this one.

ANY GUESSES AS TO WHAT IT'S ABOUT?
(you know, while the site's still up, and stuff)

Your co-dependent relationship with a one Mr. Buchet
BAHAHAHAHAHAHahahahaha...I'm just glad you know he's a real person, lol.

Kramer All solid guesses under normal circumstances, but not this time.

Funny, I didn't think it was that abstract; but then, I knew what I was thinking about. Perhaps I should move this over into the songwriting clinic...Oh wait...site's leaving, I forgot.

ANY OTHER GUESSES??

Words Don't Really Matter

You know, with all the crap I put on the vocal, I can't understand what I'm singing. Maybe this'll help.

Staring out the window on a brand new day,
I need to find a voice to help me say,
Something I’ve been putting off, for way too long,
Maybe you’ll divine the words from a simple song.
It’s not really gray,
What I need to say….today

Ch:
Don’t want to bruise you when I use you again,
Don’t want to pretend we could ever be friends,
You’re too available when it gets too dull – We’re ½ way
I want you to stay, I want you to stay…away.

We’ve been together in the shadows for some time,
I used to think that I could read your mind,
So maybe this is nothing you don’t already know,
If you ever loved me then you’ll turn around and go,
I’m pulling away
And it makes me gray…today

chorus

Maybe this is something you already know,
If you ever loved me then you’ll turn around and go… away

Chorus

Staring out the window on a brand new day,
I need to find a voice to help me say,
Maybe this is nothing you don’t already know,
If you ever loved me then you’ll turn around and go… away

Or maybe it won't. either way, thanks for playing.

 You're not getting divorced, are you chris? :(

Seems like that was a recurring theme on your cd :(

I understood all the lyrics. The effects arent that thick.;)There are still so many ways to go with an interpretation of this tune with the way the lyrics are laid out.I dig this kind of songwriting.

About a Mistress?About growing old and wanting the aging process to stay away?

Im grabbing for straws man.LOL.

[smacks himself in the forehead]

of COURSE... we've been in the shadows, you're available when I wanna use you, last time I bruised you...

yep. Pieces fit. :D

 Chris, you naughty boy

Is she hot? :D
