WITH GUT FULL OF TURKEY
Man, not really what I expected, but very cool. I'm gonna' be even wordier than usual, because this one's a real experiment for me on a lot of levels.
And......hey Jamal, where ever you are.......... nice bg's man
Hey Guernica - Those backups were so freakin' cool when I got 'em, all I did was verb them...maybe some chorus. I've noticed that "autotune" starts getting out of hand when you use it on lead vox AND bg vox. He did 'em in about :15 minutes too.
(BTW, your comment in Jaimee's thread about using them on backups is right on the money in my humble opinion. )
The drums - When Jamal originally took a run at 'em, he kinda' UNDERplayed, so I asked for "more fills." That fill at the beginning that you liked was actually his idea of a joke, but I dug it and kept it. The Honest Mango regular drummer is more of a "lead drummer" than a "pocket drummer," so it fits like this. He's just in a different city, and he has no interest in recording...so Jamal answered a call for help. The sync issues are a bitch on this one, because I've heard the tracks put together on his end, and they sound great. Something gets lost in the transfer...we're gonna' try a higher bitrate tomorrow I think.
THE GUITARS - I've collected a ridiculous number of guitars over the years, and I know the SG would have made a lot more sense on this tune, but it's not what I play live. The other guit player and I both play Takamine Acoustics, and for "gas," I just stomp on the Tubescreamer, so what you're hearing is how we play...right or wrong.
Man, Mike... you've gotta' be as sick of listening to me as I am. I was gonna' take a little break from recording, so of course, I go ahead and post 2 songs in one week. I just can't stop. I enjoy nothing more these days than making amateur recordings of mediocre songs. Anyway, I thank you.
Is your band gonna play this live?It would really kick performed with a tight band.
Hi there
Kramer - This tune has been in the rotation for awhile as a kind of an intro number, but I've been making up words on the spot...so I finally wrote some. The idea is that when people show up and see our setup (acoustic drum kit with deer antlers on it - two Takamine acoustic guitars, and bass [not to mention the lead singer/guitar player who typically wears a stetson and a UT marching band uniform...lol...you'd have to know him]), they assume we're about to lay down 4 hours of Garth Brooks or something. "WHY ARE THESE CORNFEDS PLAYING [insert name of rock club] FOR CHRISTSSAKE???" Starting off with this tune, with the distorted ACOUSTIC guits and HUGE DUH-LAY on the vox, makes some people stay that wouldn't otherwise... I'm sure it makes some folks leave too. Anyway, I'm in a warm fuzzy place after hearing your comment on the "Pop Hook." That's very cool, b/c that's what it's supposed to be.

You didn't call it country...probably b/c you're from the south, right? Cool. Sorry I made you read all this...must be the turkey buzz.
What are you using for distortion on the acoustic? I alway's wanted to over use effects like this, but didn't have the balls to let anyone hear it
Hey
David - Thanks, man. I was at a garage sale about 5 years ago, and a little guitar pedal was sitting on the $2 table. It was an Ibanez Tubescreamer...the original. Somebody obviously died...lol. Anyway, I didn't try to negotiate the price, and it actually works. It's like the SM58 of guitar FX...It's had more beer spilled on it than a stripper at Mardi Gras, and it just keeps on working.
SLuiCe gave me a tip about recording amps in a closet, so I did that. It's just my Takamine, into the TS, then into my amp (Roland Jazz Chorus..cool clean amp, but not known for ROCKING...but it's what I play through live, so that's what I recorded). The amp was cranked at stage volume, and even though it was behind 2 closed doors 15 ft. away, you can still hear the feedback. I hyped the mids on the amp when I recorded it. Oh yeah...mic'd it with the 58.
As for overusing FX, I know what you mean. Notice my disclaimer in the original post. I think a lot of people mistakenly equate HUGE effects with NO MUSICAL OR RECORDING ability...(although in my case, it may not be a mistake). Some of my favorite recordings have ridiculous amounts of FX...on gits and vocals. I love The EDGE (U2), and that S.O.B. absolutely DRIPS with FX. I'll bet if I HADN'T made the disclaimer, I'd be catching more grief for it. Anyway, you're a monster musician, so I'm stoked that you didn't scoff at the FX.
The acoustics sound ok like that. How'd you distort them?
Hey
Lt. Bob, I'm not gonna' make you read this ridiculously long post...I'm gonna' paste in what I wrote about the gits... "It's just my Takamine [acoustic] into the [Ibanez Tubescreamer pedal], then into my amp (Roland Jazz Chorus..cool clean amp, but not known for ROCKING...but it's what I play through live, so that's what I recorded). The amp was cranked at stage volume and recorded with a 58" Jeez...I'm quoting MYSELF. Could I BE any more self-absorbed??? Anyway, thanks for the comments about the delay problem...I'm redoing it. Have you noticed a trend in my inability to hear rhythm problems? LOL... Thanks a ton for listening...please post a tune of you and your daughter's band.
Someone want to clue me in on how "Autotune" works? It's obvious from the name what it does. Where do you use it?
Hey
Sennheiser - The way I use it is on my computer. It's just a little program that works on vocals or (less noticeably) on individual notes of instruments...like guitar solos. You tell it what key the song is supposed to be in, and it adjusts each note to the closest note in that key that the note is close to...(horrible sentence there...lol). The way I have been using it lately is a little more manual than auto, but I'm having fun with it. Anyway, it's what gives the vocal that unreal, warbly effect in places, like on Kid Rock's "Only God Knows Why." Thanks for listening.

EVERYBODY - WE ARE RE-DOING SOME OF THIS, SO I'D REALLY REALLY REALLY APPRECIATE SOME UPDATED FEEDBACK IN A COUPLE OF DAYS. IF YOU HAVEN'T NOTICED, I'M A HUGE PAIN IN THE ASS, AND I LOVE YOU ALL!!!! [definitely turkey buzz].
