Display monitor input

No, it doesn't matter, at least as between HDMI and DVI. HDMI can carry audio and DVI can't but, other than that, there shouldn't be a difference.
 
I'd use DVI on the grounds only that HDMI might be useful for other things, but it depends how many you've got... my new PC has got so many input/output slots of various types it's not funny...
 
Up to this point the decision was always made for me.

Maybe I should plug in both, that should be twice as good.:D
 
I would use DVI. Video cards with HDMI outputs typically have their own sound cards for generating the audio. In an audio workstation you want to disable that audio, if you use the HDMI out the card may try to re-enable that audio and make it your default audio. Better to bypass all of that potential trouble.

As it turns out I did, but that makes sense.
