Fun listen.

For me, I liked the relative guitar/vocal levels right where they are. You can still hear the vocal and the guitars are mucho big.

To my ear, the guitars are a little heavier than what you usually do. I thought they sounded awesome.

Your snare sounds amazing. Your left-panned crash might be a little too tinny - cut some 15khz maybe?

Vocals are so cool haha. Love the delay.

That's a courageous cover to do as a recording. Bon Scott has one of the most unique voices I've ever heard. Its down right odd, and nobody really sounds like him. Did you ever hear him before he was with ACDC singing stuff like "Fill me up buttercup" strange...

Recording sounds good, guitars especially, vocals sound surprisingly well on the chorus. Nice job.
Thanks man. :)

Bon Scott was indeed awesome. Totally awesome. No one can sound like him, but I think Rami did a great job getting in that range and style.

Yeah, maybe insane. More probably just coming from a different place. (I know, I know - "You're coming from right out of your own arse, dobro.") I'm unfamiliar with the original, so I'm not comparing yours to that one - I've only ever heard it in live video. I listen to any mix and try to hear what it's saying in terms of balance and separation and glue. Emulate the original? Sure, if you can. I can't, so that's why I'm always on the 'just do what makes sense to you' jag.
I can dig it. I aint mad at ya. I can't emulate the original either, I just tried to get it kind of in that style.

How do you not know the original though? :o

Thanks Trip. I rolled the vol off the guitars a little to chunk em up and take some of the edge off. That's what Angus and Malcom do, so I did it too. At the end I went up to full power. I didn't nail their tones, but I think I generally got it in the ballpark.

Thanks a lot. Ludwig Supraphonic. My favorite snare drum. :D

Hey, the mix sounds really well done - you two have come together well, and all sounds like it's in the same space. Rami can't be accused of sounding tentative on this cover - it's a really good vocal performance throughout. Bass could do with a touch more definition to me - I can hear it, but it's a little undefined to my ears (I checked the levels on my player this time before posting!?).

The song itself isn't really my thing - I don't know the original...or really any AC/DC to be honest, but I reckon you've done a good job with a strong performance and pro sounding mix.

This sounds great, you two. Great vocal performance....overall awesome energies and very faithful to the original.

Weirdly, I think the gits could be louder and more distorted..which makes me suspect my laptop because everyone else is saying the opposite. Mostly with the doubled rhythms. I'm also hearing some places here and there where those doubled rhythms are a little off...like the chords aren't ending at the same time etc. I only mention, Greg, cuz your shit is so dialed in I guess I've never noticed anything like that before in your tunes. Anyways everything sounds solid, even the shit I mentioned. Love the little slidey scrapey noises under 'You got a lady and you want her gone....'

oh yea!
great song....
great cover.

and fun to listen to

kudos!

Thanks. I had a personal struggle with the bass. I want it louder and poppier myself, but in trying to keep it true to the original, I buried it. It's just for fun. If I mix it again I'll do a mix to my own standards.

Thanks dude. I agree the guitars could maybe be a bit gainier. Not louder, but more overdriven a little. This is my 3rd, maybe 4th take on the guitars. The scratch tracks were way too clean, but I thought they sounded pretty cool if it weren't for all the string buzz and flubs everywhere. The 2nd pass was too thick. They lacked the tightness I was looking for. Then I did these and liked them so I just left them.

Thanks everyone. Dobro you are insane, but thanks for the comments anyway.

I'll give it a remix with less rhythm guitars and see if it balances out better. My idea was to mix it guitar heavy because that's kind of how their old stuff was done, and this is an oldie. But wtf do I know? I didn't really do much mixing to this at all.

As far as I'm concerned, AC/DC is one the best rock and roll bands of all time. You know what you're gonna get with AC/DC. There are no experiments, no surprises. Just pure unfiltered rock and roll. They make the same album over and over and it's great every time to me. I like Bon, I like Brian, Phil Rudd is the most solid drummer ever. I dare you to find a rock and roll album that sounds better from drums to guitars than Back in Black. Go ahead, I dare you. Back in Black. Those might be the best guitar tracks ever recorded. Ever. Literally, best of all time. If I could make an album that sounds like that, I'd tell you all to fuck off and nuke my account here. :D

Good job guys, sounds great.

While I love me some Young Brothers, and I agree that guitar tone doesn't get much better (just different), I was never a big fan of the AC/DC drum sound. It's a little too ... I don't know ... precise for me. I think it's the Mutt Lange thing. He's just too surgical for me. I generally like older, more vintage-y drum tones. I love the sound of those old Tom Petty albums for drums and guitar. For more recent stuff, I don't know if drums and guitars get much better than the Black Crowes on Southern Harmony Musical Companion. Steve Gorman is one of my favorite drummers.

Wow, I'm not sure if I've heard a cover version of Dirty Deeds, but I think this was really well done and fun to listen to. I used to love AC/DC a long time ago. Must have gotten it from my brother, as we owned many of their albums and 8-tracks. At the moment I only have about two or three of their CDs, but I think it's one of those bands that if you ever get bitten, it seems to stay with you.

Great rendition, solid performance and production.

Love ACDC. Always my go to band for straight forward in your face hard rock. They always cheer me up.

They're great live too.

Thanks for sharing.

As a guitarist, I can't believe I'm gonna say this...but I think that the guitars need to come down a little in the mix. Great performances all around. Drums and guitars sound excellent, blistering Marshall crunch. Nice job on the vocals, Rami. Those are some pipes you've got.

Yeah, that is pretty tight. A lot of the tones are very authentic sounding. I liked the back up vocals, "done dirt cheap!"...did both of you do those? The solo section was very well done I thought. It very much harkened back to the original version. Good job. :)

Excellent stuff both of you really captured the feel.
Makes me want to dig out their back catalogue now.
Thanks for making my day

First of all, wanna tell you guys that you've done a great job all around on this....As simple as AC-DC's sound is, it's really hard to nail, but you guys did a great job!!!! Everything sounds great, & the vocals really surprised me, as that's one thing that I really struggle with myself, always have, & probably always will....Super job guys!!!!

Now, onto the nits I have....(sorry...LOL)...

The guitars are in the ballpark, but c'mon Greg, I've heard you pretty much nail any tone you want, you've got any Marshall tone one could want....To me, the guitars sound just a little undergained, & lack the bite that they need....Maybe dial in a little more top end??? I dunno, while they do sound really good (I couldn't even get close myself...), they need the "bite" to really cut through...Still, they sound great man, my hat's off to ya, as usual....

The bass (as mentioned) is a little un-definded...maybe it's where I'm not using my usual 'phones/setup to listen, but the bass could used a little more mid-high mid range boost.....Still, again, I couldn't do this....

Drums sound killer, but they've got just a little too much 'verb or something, like the guitars, the drums need to sound just a little more raw....

Of course, this is to try & nail their sound, which would be impossible for me to do, but you guys have done a great job putting your own spin on a classic song, & again my hat's off to both of you....Great job!!!!!

Thanks dude. I'm still gonna try a re-mix but haven't gotten to it yet.

Thanks heat. Rami did all the main vocals and some of the backups. I filled in with more backups and the little "ah" thing that runs under the verses.

Thanks a lot minerman. I don't disagree with your nits at all. If I were listening to this done by someone else I'd say the same exact things. It's tough to walk the line between an authentic reproduction cover and putting too much of your own spin on it. It sometimes ends up not being enough of either, or too much of one or the other. I didn't try to nail any of the sounds, but just be in that general ballpark. As basic as their gear was, AC/DC's own guitar sound changed dramatically from album to album over the years, so I just tried to do a general nondescript AC/DC type of sound on everything and mix it in their early style. I did a lot of things on this mix that I don't normally do. I didn't want it to sound like a typical Greg song. Like the drums - I never use that much room on my kit. I never mute the toms that much. I never roll around the guitar volume while playing. I do really like the guitars at the end though when they go to full power. I think I got a killer sound on that part and will be using those settings again for sure.

Cool, sounded pretty good to me, vox didn`t fit at all in my mind though, but I`m not saying Rami sang it bad, his singing was good. Just that it really needs rasp or dirt like Bon IMPO

I really liked this. When it started I was anticipating the vocal and Rami delivered. As good as any cover could be. It was so much fun to listen to I couldn't critique if I wanted to. Great job!

Thanks guys. I think Rami did a fine job. Excellent job. No one sounds like Bon, but Rami has a similar enough tonal quality that he was the one and only guy I thought of to ask to sing this.
