Direct recording problem

Hey everyone, new to the forum here! I have a question that hopefully can get resolved here so that I can be on my way recording.

I recently purchased a TASCAM US-1641 recording unit. It mixes up to 16 simultaneous channels through USB 2.0 into Cubase LE 4, which came with the unit. Now, micing my amp is working just fine, but there are a few things that I would like to go direct in with. There are two "Direct out" jacks on the back of my Marshall 2-12 8240 Stereo Chorus, the amp that I am using right now for recording. Now, it would only seem logical that if I ran a 1/4'' from one of the Direct outs into the TASCAM, it would record directly. This is not the case, however.

When I do this, I get a loud, static noise emitting from whatever I am monitering the sound from. I would like a way to record directly from my amp to eliminate any micing. I know, better tone with open recording and mics, but I would still like to do a few things directly.

Anyone here know how to eliminate this static noise?

Best regards,
Mike

Is it just a loud SSSHHHHH! or is it a crackly kind of static?

The SSSHHHH! is just the sound of the amp with the gain up. You will probably need to turn down the input of the Tascam.

If it is a crackly sound, something is broken. You are doing it right, the amps direct out is just broken.

BTW, make sure you are using a line input on the tascam, not an instrument input or a mic input. Instruments and mics put out a very weak signal and your amp's DI does not.
