I'm recording my acoustic/electric using the direct input on my mic pre-amp, and I noticed my low E and A strings are buzzing a bit. I know it's a pretty common phenomena, but does anyone know what causes this?

I don't think it's because I'm not pressing down hard enough. Do I just need new strings? Does the truss rod need adjustment? The guitar is less than 1 year old, so I don't suspect the general decay that older guitars sometimes fall into.

If you have any ideas, let me know.

Thanks,
Peter

Adjustment

Sounds like a truss rod adjustment issue. I once bought an Artwood Ibanez from Sam Ass, owned it less than one year and then brought it back to trade in. The high school dropout salesman said the neck was so warped the guitar was worthless. Needless to say, 1 call to Richard Ash later and I had full retail value trade in. The moral of the story is you don't have to own an acoustic long before an adjustment is needed..

Thanks g

If that's the case, I've seen plenty of truss rod adjustments done but never done it myself. Is it something one can mess up badly if done incorrectly? Should I just take it to a shop around town?

Anyone else have ideas about what it might be, if not the truss rod?

Take it to a pro

I have never done my own truss rod adjustments, too scared. Heard to many horror stories about stipped threads, etc. There is a user named Light who is a pro repair guy, perhaps he can shed some "Light" on the subject. IMO take it in...

If you've never done it before I would not mess with the truss rod on an acoustic. You can mess it up pretty bad and it may not even need adjusting. You could possible need a new saddle.

Take it to a good tech. It should cost around $30 to get it setup.
