Direct Box Vs Mic

Without a doubt a mic'd setup is the way to go, but with that said it's a lot of work to get a good sound, the room your in, mic placement, the mic(s) you use etc will all affect your sound.

If you're just doing it for kicks (like I do) try out the DI route, It's wayyyyy easier to get a consistant sound. I assume you have an accoustic with a PU and depending on the mixer you might not need a DI box.

I like using the Dean Markley ProMags with DI.

Yeah...you get a touch of that "acoustic/electric" vibe...but the Promags sound quite good AFA acoustic guitar pickups go, and for anything except pure-n-sparse *acoustic* recordings...they sound good and make the process so much simpler, faster and always consistent. I don't do too much *acoustic* type of recordings, so when I mix in the drums, bass, electric guitars and whatever else I got...the DI acoustic fits just right...never too thin-n-jangly or too boomy and dull, which is often the tug-of-war you get trying to mic acoustic guitars in less than great rooms.
