WTF are you talking about, theres no "right" place to put it. And if he puts it away from the cone, its going to be even more flat. and the farther it is the more high pitched it sounds
 
yeah man..it sounds really flat and bassy doing that..hmm maybe i need to tweak witrh the eq on my amp? i dunno

Putting the mic off center DOES NOT increase the highs. Notice "off center of the cone"? The cone isn't the speaker. The cone is the center.

OK YOU COCK SUCKING PIECE OF CUM. I didnt say it increases highs off center I said it increases highs when placed farther away.
 
AND Studio was asking ME on what to do and all I did was give a suggestion based on my experiences with the sm57

sweet I was right. The first one I heard and said this is the real one. Before even hearing the second. I didn't really like the sound of either of them though. I like these threads.
 
yeah my mic playments suck..or maybe theres something wrong with my mesa

Try the Senn 421 instead of a 57.

I know it's a dynamic mic but room ambiants can also thin out a cab recording.

Remember also if your going to record other instruments with your guitar not to over exceed your level while tracking. Tracking too hot can ruin a recording. I usually hang around -18db to -12db (a/d converter meters) depending on what else is in the mix. Bring your levels up in the mixing/mastering phase. Also when tracking remember to compress or eq conservatively, if at all.

I did like the first track a bit more. More tighter. I think you could improve on cab mic'ing to make a huge difference in the two.

Also try some different mic placement. I usually put headphones on and a tobogan and move the mic around the speaker (1" or two away from grill cloth) till a good match is made.

Great sounding recording. I liked the 57 better. It sounded a bit more cutting and dangerous.

I will do a senn 421 sample and post it when i get home from work.
 
okay i dont think you can really compare a modeller to a real amp miced up without treatment, most presets on modellers have been processed loads which makes them good direct but wont sound close to raw miced tracks.
Also i think u would benefit from playing with settings a bit

I honestly don't like processors, theres something abut em that dont sound the same. I have two and ever since I bought em I lost faith in them :(

That is the dust cap. The cone is everything between the dust cap and the surround (spider).

Shut your mouth and educate yourself before you look like even more of a dumbass on this board than you already do. Read what I read very closely. Did I not tell him to move the mic around til you finds a good spot? You and you're completely useless comments are going on my ignore list. It's cool if you want to help but you really need to settle down.
 
i think i'm going to try micing it with two mics..all i have is a sm57 and a audix i5..but when i place the mic a little above the speaker it gets real dull and bassy..sounds like a big phase problem..but im going to try a few things and ill post some samples up later today.

How do you have a PIECE OF CUM? That sounds painful, might want to get that checked out before you tear somthing.
