Digital noise floor

Hi,

Equipment:
Amp
: LFSUPER112 ( line out )
Di: Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 ( 3rd gen )
Daw: Ableton 12 lite
Cable: XLR3F to 1/4" TRS balanced

I bought the LFSUPER112 so I could use its line out to record some sessions. The music store recommended using an XLR3F to 1/4" TRS cable to connect it to my Focusrite interface. However, I'm experiencing some digital noise, and I'm not sure where it's coming from.

When using direct monitoring the noise is weaker and/or is not present, but when recording and listening in Ableton the noise is lifted, not hum, seems digital.

I've turned off the INST and AIR settings on the Focusrite and set the gain so that the loudest signal from my guitar peaks around -12 dB.

I'm trying to figure out if its my DAW, Interface, amp or cable.

Thanks in advance,
Jeremy

I doubt its digital noise at all. Its a guitar amp. They tend to hiss, but ai am a little confused. I thought they had a ¼” jack for the line output, and you just use a guitar cable to get audio into one of the combi connectors on the interface? Where does an xlr female go? The best matching will be line out to line in on the scarlett, this lets the gains sit at their least noise position in normal use. If the cable has an xlr male, then it will work in the interface mic input, but will need the gain turned very low, or/and the level lowered on the guitar amp to avoid unwanted noise and distortion. Can you confirm what you have and where you have shoved the plugs?
