Digital Mulittrack Recorder?

I'm looking to buy a portastudio. I'm a solo musician who does his own mixing and I purchase tracked out beats online often. Has anyone ever used one of these to mix tracked out beats? If so, what are ways of doing this and how was the experience

They work the same way as cassette portas. Record a few tracks and bounce them down. My only gripe with them is the ones I've used (Fostex MR-8s) felt chintzy and plasticky.
