Digidesign Venue?

If you guys are looking at the Venue, and you already are familiar with Nuendo and Yamaha's digital consoles, you should tell him to really consider the Yamaha Lyvetracker setup. http://www.lyvetracker.com/ There is full integration between Nuendo, the console, and the recording and effects system. Just call your local Yamaha guys and they can get you all the information.

That's an impressive system right there - although it is entertaining that when you click on the "What is Lyve Tracker" link, the first thing they point out is that the unit is available in two colors :)

btw yoyo, apparently there is a character limit to reputation. Might want to cut down your anger to shorter sentences.

However, I will say that no, I have not used the Venue system. I apologise for trying to make other suggestions, in the spirit of open discussion. I'm ending this here because I really do hate flame wars on bbs's - it seems rather absurd.

And for clarification. I have serious time behind a Venue system, and I build the Lyvetracker.

One of my friends who runs a live sound company runs them all the time and considers them overkill, and overly-expensive, not to mention digidesign is regarded by some as being a venture capital experiment of Satan himself. although i won't get into that one here.

You best not go into it - you do not have direct contact with these consoles :mad::D

ok thanks. i just don't want this to turn into another, youre wasting your money, get this thread. i knida just want to know the cons and pros since i'm gonna have to learn this system and i'm just plainly interested in it. i realize there's a lot of other consoles, but i have absolutely NO SAY in the matter, and that's fine with me. the sound guy may never get the approval to buy this board. but i was just interested int he functionality, what people use it for etc.

lol, i laughed as well when the lyve tracker thing advertised how you can buy it in two colors first, it's kinda makes it seem like a joke....

btw, we need a lot of channels. we have a HUGE band. two sometimes 3 BGV's, one lead singer, he plays a two channel output guitar. we have lead guitar, bass, and electronic drums which i think takes up a few channels. we have two mics in the piano, flute, violin. 3 overhead mics for the choir, pulpit mic, mic for the preacher, extra wirelesses for other speakers. DVD, VHS and CD/TAPE feeds, oh and a harp..... lol. i think i'm missing some, but yeah, we need a lot of channels.

ok.....this is easy then!

Anytime i'm going to be buying a product, or find myself in a position of having to know how to use a piece of equipment before i get it, i download the manual.

What you might want to do is go to digidesign's site and download the manual (if they let you do it) and read like crazy. you'll know a ton about the operations of the console prior to installing it.

good advice!! i've actually done this once before on a smaller basis, but yeah, if we do get it, this would be a great idea. thanks.

That is a rather obnoxious number of inputs, and you probably want to leave most things hardwired in so settings can be left, so tons of channels becomes quite handy.

As for the manual, I've poked around the Digidesign website, and can't seem to get any detailed info about how their systems are constructed... just the general "This revolutionary system will change the way you record live audio", etc etc.

Time to branch out to google :p

Congrats yoyo, your smart ass little mouth has once again proven that you truly are 14 years old. I have worked in the live and studio ends of this industry for a while now. Just so you know, you would be the LAST kid I would ever train to learn how to do something important like running a complicated church service or to even be able to touch a $75k plus console. Your attitude is as bad as it gets. In my experience that kind of ego solely exists to try and cover up the fact that you don't know what you are doing and desperately want to fit in.

The bottom line here is that it is very likely that one of a couple things are happening. First, all of this is probably a hoax so you can try and drop what you think is some sort of cool buzzwords and make you look good in other peoples eyes. Second, you have absolutely nothing to do with the purchase but just want to look cool. In either event, this whole thing is a bunch of childish crap that should nto be aired out here.

Just so you do know, I never made any statements about what your church has for sapce and/or money. Just because there is space doesn't mean that the intelligent knowledgable people involved (which you have clearly shown that you are not a part of) want to use this space up unnecessarily. Obviously this was a consideration (therefore the DM2000). Next, I actually reccomended some other options because they made more sense in certain ways. Also, there is not much of an advantage of having the preamps on stage unless you want to leave your rack exposed to other people and not have it available to the engineer should it be necessary. If you have a specific and dedicated monitor engineer this works OK because then there is someone there that does know what is going on.

In the real world, which you do not seem to be involved in, it is VERY important that you have qualified personell around that understands how to use the equipment available. The current person there may be very knowledgable. However, he/she does have their own life as well. You never know when they will move, change jobs, just not want to do it anymore etc... Having a console that is easy to learn is not a bad thing at all and certainly does not mean that people will just walk up and mix on it. When dealing with digital large format consoles what this means is that it is laid out well enough and is easy enough to use that a QUALIFIED engineer can learn it fairly quickly and easily. Hopefully the church does not leave a console like that in an area where just any old person can get to it. That would be foolish and be inviting trouble. Plus, the digi racks are not all that quiet so it would be good to have the console somewhat isolated in an environment where that noise could be of issue.

Before you start spouting off a bunch of crap about "have you used it" or something here is a quick list of consoles that I HAVE used in live settings....

Yamaha - PM5D, PM4000, PM3500, PM3000, PM1800, PM1000, MG Series, Mseries, M7CL, DM2000, DM1000, O2R and 01V.

Allen Heath - ML5000, ML3000, GL4000, GL4, GL3000, GL3, Mix Wiz

Soundcraft - Series 5, Series 2, Venue, Delta series, K series, Ghost, GB series, MH4

Digico D5

Innovason Grand, Compact, and Grand Live

Wheatstone ?

Mackie - pretty much all of them except the TT24.

Behringer - several models I am trying to forget

Midas - XL4, H3000, H1000, XL200, Verona, Sienna, Venice, XL250

Oh yeah..... and the DIGIDESIGN VENUE

BTW, I did also recommend looking into a Digidesign Profile. On quick search I found a place that sells them and in their description is...

Digidesign D-Show Profile System
Up to 96 inputs, small footprint, fully compatible with all VENUE hardware, ideal for houses of worship, theaters, nightclubs, corporate events, & remote broadcasts.

Kind of seems like maybe this is more appropriate and that maybe the Venue is overkill eh?

you should'n't have even POSTED in this thread. you think you know EVERYTHING aand have to POST in EVERY thread. you don't. so shut up and sit down.

ahem...

know what a digital signal is, and what a analog signal is. how they work yada yada.

i know about interfaces and converters and wat they do. as well as firewire and usb

i'm just frustrated that i can't get a cheaper analog mixing console that connects straight to the pc. I pretty much want a more basic version of the big consoles. something that has 32 or 48 channels, that connects to the pc, and each channel is recognized SEPARATELY. that's mainly what i want. i have converters and stuff already.... i'm just sick of not being able to record 16 tracks at once and not having to spend $$$$$$ on a really expensive piece of gear.

for your own good, i suggest that you sit down and shut up

there's no need to carry on this flaming wall. i've shut up now, and so cna the rest of you. lets let this thread get burried, ok? if a 14 can, you can.

Ah, so now that it has turned against you we should stop? I really hoped you had learned from the last thread when I helped expose you. I see now that you have not.

jesus...if i was anything like this kid, i sure as hell don't

Widespread Panic uses the Venue system for their live sound and seamless integration into their ProTools rig.

I just wanted to add, if this is the box I think it is, I built this one too. I know they were using one of the rigs we built for Eighth Day Sound, at least this past spring when they damaged it in transit and I had to build a replacement really fast and get it to them.

Yeah, I liked the part where he was all defensive about how much money his church had to throw around. w.t.heck? "Dood you don't even know; my Megachurch™ has gold-plated pews and crystal chandeliers and vintage microphones and we hired Bono to lead our 3rd service praise band so you should know we have PLENTY of money! And space? We have a sanctuary the size of the Superdome, and we'd have even more extra space if it wasn't for all this money everywhere! So you shut up and die because I am greater than all of you for the simple fact that I get to fetch the coffee here!"

How, *ahem*, meek and humble of him...
Go R.T.FrigginM. and don't bother people.

what a crazy thread.

i just noticed he is not 14 anymore.
