A short while back, the band bought a used 24 channel mixer of Allen & Heath's latest line. We thought we needed more preamps for recording, but we don't. We thought we'd do gigs that used our gear, but we haven't. The good news is I bought it at a price at or under what I could get selling it.
We need new software, and I'd been ogling Cakewalk, but the studio where I'll be going to school uses Pro Tools, and I'll be taking such wonderful classes as Pro Tools I and Pro Tools II, so maybe it'd be a good idea to use the same software to avoid compatibility and work-flow issues.
But which Digidesign interface do I get? They all look the same! I'm having a hard time finding a basic understanding of why some are so much more expensive than others.
I gathered the Mbox 2 Mini has one preamp, while the Mbox 2 and Mbox 2 Pro have two preamps, but why is one better? And apart from a couple more preamps, what does the 003 rack have that the Mbox doesn't? And what does the term "factory" mean? Is the software identical for every single interface I've mentioned so far?
And why is it so hard to find this information?!?
