I'm researching the Digi 001 to buy for my home studio. Whenever I see pictures of it I see the two inputs on the front, but I know that there are many more inputs on the back even though they never show them. How mant inputs are there on the back. I want to be able to input at least 4 XLR jack microphones but I think that all the inputs on the back are 1/4. Can anyone who knows about the Digi 001 tell me how these inputs work and how many tracks I can record at the same time. How can I input many XLR Jacks into the system. Do I need a mic preamp with XLR jacks. What kind of mic preamp do I need. How would that work so I could record at least 4 XLR jack microphones onto different tracks at the same time. If any of my questions need clarification please tell me and I will try to rephrase. Thanks,
Eric

It has two microphone jacks with preamps on the front.

The back has 8 line level inputs. You cannot use 1 and 2 when you use the two front inputs (I believe...haven't used that function yet on the studios 001). The inputs on the back are so you can hook up external mic preamps to those inputs. You have 8 inputs total you can do at the same time on that soundcard.

You will need mic preamps to use the inputs on the back.

Does this help?

...just couldnt resist correcting your slight oversight Ed, but the digi 001 has six inputs on the back. I just looked at one to make sure...the inputs on a 001 are as follows; 1&2-on the front with mic pres, 3 thru 8 (line level inputs no micpres)are on the back. There are also digital inputs, two of which are on the back so...yes Ed you technically are correct on the # of rearly placed inputs, however these (S/PDIF)would require A/D converters and mic pres...
