Im posting a dif version of it that should be up tomorrow which is more like the original that I have here. The version up there sounds too compressed bec it is. It was converted from a wav file to MP3 and then again from 192 to 128 by the host site. The original is much more open, has a very present top end, and doesnt have the limiting artifacts youre hearing.

Chessrock, this was done last year, before I had my envoice, before I had my soundcraft, before I had my delta 1010 and some other goodies. ;)
The fat sound is mostly waves renEQ, a fair amount of targeted Q10 and some PSP mixsaturator and some vintage warmer on the guitars. I also basically cut off everything above 1k on the bass and yanked down everything above 600Hz. At first I put it through the saturator but it lost its smoothness, the saturator made it aggressive so I left it without.

Overall I tried to keep a balance of a fat wide bottom that sounds contained as a bed for his vocals. As far as the drums, I guess the vote is in for live drums. Huh? :D It was done electronically bec we didnt have time but I thought it worked. It would be more dynamic with live drums and I may add them. The other songs he did here have live drums. Ill post those. They didnt grab me as much as this one did though.

It's a very interesting blend going on.

The guitars sound very warm, fat, and raw. I take it you had the tube drive cranked on the envoice? Yea, it's a nice, thick sound alright. The bass sits in there very well, and I like the way it carries a lot of the melody line (ala Tool).

Meanwhile, the vocals are very bright sounding in contrast. My only problem with it is there might be a little too much contrast going on, as the reverb kinda' takes over and sounds a little too digital in sharp contrast to the warmer sound of the music.

The drum machine is good, but it's kinda' on the fence deciding what it wants to be: Does it want to be a dirty, distorted, in-your-face Trent Reznor style, or does it want to be accoustic/organic? It might be cool to try it both ways and see what sounds better.

All in all, an interesting song with lots of good textures and balance with a reflective, sometimes somber mood and production quality that draws the listener in.

Like I said I had trouble getting an open airy sound with the harmonies. Either they were dull and had no definition or were too bright. In the original mix they were more background to the guitars I figured Id err on the side of putting them more up front in this remix.
I assume youre talking about the harmonies not the main vocal throughout when you say that its too bright for the guitars. Correct me if Im wrong.
