Step 1 ----> Go to www.broadjam.com

Step 2 ----> Do a search on JuSumPilgrim

Step 3 ----> Download "Thaw"

This is a track I did last year on my old setup--a delta 66 with the DMP2 pres and a C1. It sounds a bit like sevendust... which is no accident bec the singer is way into them. I like the vocals alot..they were done in basically one take.
I recently remixed it and like the way it came out. Although the top end didnt survive the double MP3 conversion (I converted it to 192 and broadjam then converted it to 128). Its about 4-5dB brighter 8k and up. Also the transients got squashed a bit so it lost some punch but overall the balance is there.

ok...I may not be the brightest...but where do you go after you click your hyperlink? I couldn't figure it out.

And...comments on anything in particular...or just an enjoybable listen you are turning us on to??

Go to "enter site" on the musician side (left side) and then go to "search", etc.

Hey,the search engine asks for Genre,State and country along with the ban name.......just putting your band name in brings up ZERO results.

Try loading your tunes on Nowhereradio and you might get a few listens.

[edit to add]a search for "thaw" brings results but JuSumPilgrim brought back nothing.

[edit to add again!]This is the url straight to your artist page to bypass all that search junk:

If you do a search on "jusumpilgrim" under artist name--jusumpilgrim comes up on the right hand side under which there is a song called "thaw" for download.

How hard is that?

ok...got it.. boy I feel computer challenged sometimes.

The music sounds dull as compared to the vocals ..a big differnce in EQ, it seems...and there's some reverb on those harmonies..eh?;)

Kinda a sluggish arrangement too. A good tune, but it seems that it kinda "chugs" along like the 'turntable' is kinda slowed down.

A little hissy on the abrupt ending...

However..
Very unique and unusual in a positive way. Very good singer.

seemed like it got an extra [questioning] post outta me!!:p

ya know...I could have been a drummer and been completely lost, ya know.....:(

The guitars arent center stage, theyre just there to provide a bottom for the vocals. The slow chugging is the way he wanted it and I think it totally works for the song.

there ya go...then ya got what was wanted. I just happen to have disagreed... more so with the imbalanced EQ mix ....and I didn't even comment on Cyan's NS10's yet either!!!!!!

chug on!! I mean, "funk on"

Dude, the singer is awesome. The songwriter found a wildcard and used it. Maybe even overused it. It is certified WILDCARD by me though and thats a good thing.

Nice work. I am listening on cheap speakers now and its sounding good to me. Maybe a little too much digital room(nice room though) . I'll listen and critic when I finally get to my ns10ms

Yeah I really like his voice and so does everyone I played it for here. Ill post some other work he did at my studio.

The thing I struggled with the most in this mix are the breathy harmonies in the beginning. They sound overly processed bec they were. Its a lesson in going back and starting from the beginning which I didnt do instead of continiung down a road of further EQ cuts and boosts, filters, reverbs, flange, etc and piling effects on top of each other.

Nice layered vocals but the overall mix needs help to make it pleasing to the ears.

so...you recorded the vocals with the effects then? Did they sound good while tracking, but present themselves differently come mix time?

Cool stuff. For me personally, I think this would really kick ass if it had somebody bangin' real drums instead of a machine. I think that would give the tune some needed energy. The singer definatetely has it.:D

No. I dont own any outboard effects.

Bec of time constraints when I originaly mixed it, I didnt have time to go back to and rework the layered harmonies so I did the best I could to salvage what was there.
In the wav version of this song the definition and detail on the harmonies is much more there. I dont want to sound like Im blaming the conversion but there were 2 conversions here. Mine to 192 which broadjam then converted to 128 ..which took off something like 5dB on top in my estimation.

The harmonies are really not the meat of the song. The meat is in the upfront vocal.

Sounds pretty good! I do agree that a more organic drum sound and interesting arrangement would keep the song from dragging a bit. Overall a good job though.

Are the guitars recorded direct? A POD or something?

ok,

I listened on my ns10ms, and its clearly too compressed and limited.

I think I was also heaing slight distortion somewhere.

Its still a darn good song though.

It's a very interesting blend going on.

The guitars sound very warm, fat, and raw. I take it you had the tube drive cranked on the envoice? Yea, it's a nice, thick sound alright. The bass sits in there very well, and I like the way it carries a lot of the melody line (ala Tool).

Meanwhile, the vocals are very bright sounding in contrast. My only problem with it is there might be a little too much contrast going on, as the reverb kinda' takes over and sounds a little too digital in sharp contrast to the warmer sound of the music.

The drum machine is good, but it's kinda' on the fence deciding what it wants to be: Does it want to be a dirty, distorted, in-your-face Trent Reznor style, or does it want to be accoustic/organic? It might be cool to try it both ways and see what sounds better.

All in all, an interesting song with lots of good textures and balance with a reflective, sometimes somber mood and production quality that draws the listener in.
