I've been using my audiophille 2496 card for about 2 months now with no problems, I love it! Until two days ago, when I went to monitor the previous nights tracks I had recorded, I found I had bad stuttering and pops. Upon further investigation I found I have this condition on every track that I've ever recorded. Luckly I made backup audio!! I went to the Cakewalk newsgroups and someone had posted saying he talked to someone at M audio, and they told him that their soundcards don't work properly with Cakewalk!?! Have you guys heard this before?
I think I'm going to uninstall/Reinstall cakewalk, then my soundcard if I have to. But what caused my stuttering and pops in the first place? I also can't record anything currently without the pops. My soundcard works fine with all other applications like my cd player and for other sounds...just doesn't jive with cakewalk? Help please,

thanx

They don't, eh? That'll be big news to the many thousands of people sucessfully using them every day. I've had a Delta 66 for almost two years and it's worked like a top with Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 , and for most of the last year, with SONAR.

Re the sudden appearance of stuttering and popping:

(1) Have you defragmented your hard disk(s) recently?
(2) Have you installed new anything recently, hardware or software?

I've had an Audiophile for about two weeks now running CW Home Studio 2002.The only problem I have had were dropouts but it has been a matter of adjusting my buffers for 24bit recording. When I first installed my card my latency was automatically set for something like 3 ms,which was way too low.I think my latency now is about 30 ms and I haven't had any problems.

I haven't tried any 16bit recording but I am curious at what latency the audiophile could handle with no problem.I think my old soundblaster ran about 50 ms.

I saw that thread in the Newsgroup too. I think the problem was with the new GT Pro and M Audio cards. The guy who originated the post seems very straight up to me so I think when he said M Audio told him there was an issue when using them with GT Pro that he was being truthful. Sadly, he said that he's sent several emails to CW that have so far been unreturned. I wonder what's up with this? I remember a couple of years ago when I got my feet wet with computer based recording that I bought that little CW Guitar Tracks 2.0 (just 8 stereo tracks) and figured it'd work with my SB Live. I later learned that the tracks wouldn't stay in sync because SB would only record at a default of 16/48 but 48 wasn't something that GT would record at. Thus it led you to believe that it was recording at 44.1 and was actually resampling the newly recorded tracks on the fly to 44.1 It couldn't keep up with the previoulsy recorded tracks though and this caused them to go out of sync after a couple of minutes. I looked everywhere on the CW website for a listing of the obvious incapatability and posted in their Newsgroup but found nothing and CW never returned my emails either.

Say what you want but there's something kind of shady about that I think.

ya know...

I did install a program for editing my J-station, I haven't defraged my hard drive...I'll try that. BUT I went to play back trax today and everything was ok!? I am using GT PRO, for about three months now, and with the audiophille 2496 for about two months and just now have troubles. What are some advantages with CW Home Studio 2002, or other higher rated CW programs compared to my GT PRO?

Thanx again,

HS2002 can mix midi and audio together. It also has a better developed audio engine, it was designed from the "ground up" for win 2000 and win xp. It is also not limited to 8 tracks, only the power of your cpu. GT was very sluggish on my puter, lots of drop-outs and stuff, HS2002 hasn't done it at all, apart from when I push it to the limit with fx overheads and the like.

HS2002 is a cut down version of Sonar, it is sometimes referred to here as Sonar "Lite". It has a lot more useful features and tools than GT.

As an ex-gt owner myself, I would recommend the upgrade.

thanx paul881

I'm thinking about upgrading to the HS2002...but I'm just not sold on it yet. I do use Winxp. Maybe if I have more probs with GT. What made you ditch the GT and get the HS2002?

The main reason were that I needed to download and playback midi files for recording vocals and guitar over the top. And I wanted a more powerful set of tools, I am a singer/songwriter, GT was too limiting. Once I had checked out that it was possible to record to a high standard using GT Demo, I set my sights on one day having my own small project studio, so an upgrade was inevitable. And that was two years ago and I'm not there yet. Always something else to buy and upgrade:)

Look here for more details of HS2002.
