Alright.. i feel kinda stupid.. i'm a COMPLETE newbie at all this.... so I go and buy my first 4-track recorder, the Tascam Porta02.. and i accidentally put a type I cassete in... it jammed, but i managed to get all the tape out... will this cause any major damage?

Chris

Only to your ego for admitting to it in public.

They only recommend the Type II tape because it sounds better on that machine.
Don't beat yourself up thinking that was the reason it jammed! It wasn't.

A tip for the near future...

Make sure you keep your heads clean and demagnetized.

Basics....

1. Use Good Quality Type II High bias tape (TDK, MAXELL, SONY)

2. Clean and de-mag often (Turn the machine off during demagnetizing or you will really screw it up!

3. Don't quit your day job until you have saved enough money for a digital recorder, that does not rely on stupid cassette tapes to store your precious songs!
