Take a look at the Mackie web site (Mackie.com). Go to their products page and pick a mixer (any mixer). Then download one of their manuals or "hookup guides." There should be a variety of diagrams showing different ways the mixer can be configured with mics, recorders, effects, etc. Hope this clear things up.
