DI boxes for guitars...

i've heard great things about the REDDI. it's a tube based DI, and is made by a well-respected company, A-Designs. It's made in the USA and runs about $575 if i recall correctly.

The Brick is a mic pre/DI that has received great reviews, especially for the price of the unit.

you might have more flexibility if you choose a clean DI and used an vsti or hardware distortion module. i use a nobels od-1, which i bought for $50 off eBay, and i LOVE it. it's got this nice warm crunch that is very musical to me. highly underrated pedal, IMO.

Well I am of the mindset that you should not be recording guitars direct at all, but if you must.....

The REDDI is an amazing Di with a very nice midrange. If you are looking at something solids state the Radial engineering and Little Labs DIs are fantastic and should be in your price range or less.

Do you mean amp simulator, or di box?
Line 6 is an amp simulator/DI really.

If thats the case, id maybe look at some software guitar rig stuff.
Some of these can sound good IMO.
But if you are looking for a DI?...
The Rolls Royce of DI's is the Avalon U5 IMO.
And whaddya know?!

They just happen to be 500.00. :D

grn, I just bought a POD-XT live, as I don't have an amp to play through. At least not a real one. I would agree with with the people who say mic an amp if you can, as they seem to get a better sound than most of the DI/amp sim stuff I've heard on here. But if an amp isn't an option, then I know I get better sounds out of my POD, than some of the other ways I have tried. (amp sim built in to my 4 track recorder, directly through pedals, my amp that crackles and pops...)

It's the only thing I have used, so no comparison info for ya, but it works for me. Hope this helps a bit.
Ed
