Hey guys!! I have a question. I am recording my Ibanez acoustico electro on my 424 mkIII. I was wondering if it would make any difference in whether I went directly from the preamp of my guitar straight into my 4-track through the 1/4th plug(that's what I'm doing now) or would it be better if I went through my direct box into the XLR?Would ther be any differences besides impedance? Anything of audio worthiness or anything else? All comments welcomed and greatly appreciated.

Brandon,

I'm guessing that your 4 track has an XLR input. If so, than, yeah, a DI can give your acoustic guitar a signal that would be better suited for that preamp. Most guitars have a Hi-Z out which doesn't quite have the signal strength as a line-level, which is what a lot of 1/4" jacks are expecting on mixers. This can make recording an acoustic/electric guitar a bit tough. Now if your 4-track has a dedicated guitar input, you got it made. By the way, a DI is not going to add anything to your signal (or it shouldn't) like more highs. It should only get your guitar signal to match your mic input.

Peace, Jim

Ok, that sounds cool Jim. Thanks for your reply!! Anyone else have any tidbits of info they'd like to share?
